Quick answer: For most people, no. Liposomal glutathione is reduced glutathione wrapped in tiny fat-based bubbles, and one small single-dose study found it reached a higher peak in the blood than plain glutathione. But no study has shown that it builds more glutathione in the body over weeks than plain reduced glutathione, and the longest placebo-controlled trial, six months long, used plain capsules. Price is where the gap is clear. The liposomal products we priced in Australia in September 2026 cost $3.13 to $11.12 per gram of glutathione, against $0.44 for ours. Our pick is Eternal Elixir Reduced L-Glutathione 2000mg: 1,000mg per capsule, 2,000mg per two-capsule serve, 90 capsules for $39.99.

Eternal Elixir makes Reduced L-Glutathione 2000mg, and it is our pick, so weigh our view with that in mind. We don’t sell a liposomal glutathione. Every competitor price and label detail below was read from that product’s own page in September 2026 and is linked, and the studies are listed in full at the end. We have not lab-tested any of these products.

What reduced glutathione is, and what “liposomal” adds
Glutathione is a small molecule made in the body from three amino acids: cysteine, glycine and glutamate. It exists in two states. Reduced glutathione (GSH) is the active form that neutralises reactive molecules, and in doing so it becomes oxidised glutathione (GSSG). The body then recycles it back. When a supplement label says “L-glutathione (reduced)”, it means the active GSH form, and that is what ours and most capsules contain.
The problem with swallowing glutathione is that it is a peptide, and the gut breaks peptides down. For years it was assumed that little oral glutathione survived. Liposomal products try to get around this by enclosing the glutathione in phospholipid bubbles, made from ingredients such as sunflower lecithin, on the theory that the bubble protects it on the way through. That is a reasonable idea. The question is whether it changes what happens in the body over weeks and months, which is what you pay for.
What the human studies show
Four human studies do most of the work in this debate. Two used plain reduced glutathione, one used liposomal glutathione, and one compared the two after a single dose:
- Plain reduced glutathione, 54 adults, 6 months. A randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 250mg or 1,000mg a day in non-smoking adults. Blood glutathione rose at 1, 3 and 6 months at both doses. At 6 months the 1,000mg group had 30 to 35% more glutathione in red blood cells, plasma and lymphocytes and 260% more in cheek cells, and the 250mg group had 17% more in blood and 29% more in red blood cells. Levels returned to baseline after a one-month break. Natural killer cell activity, a marker of immune function, more than doubled in the high-dose group compared with placebo at 3 months (Richie et al., European Journal of Nutrition, 2015).
- Plain reduced glutathione, 40 adults, 4 weeks. 500mg twice a day or placebo. Red blood cell glutathione and markers of oxidative stress did not change (Allen and Bradley, Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, 2011). Four weeks may have been too short: in the six-month trial, the rises grew with time.
- Liposomal glutathione, 12 adults, 4 weeks. 500mg or 1,000mg a day, six people per dose, open-label with no placebo group. Glutathione rose within a week, and the largest rises came at 2 weeks: 40% in whole blood, 25% in red blood cells, 28% in plasma and 100% in white blood cells called PBMCs. The authors called the findings preliminary because of the small sample, and the study was funded by a company that sells liposomal glutathione (Sinha et al., European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2018).
- Liposomal vs plain, one dose, 12 adults. Six people took a single 1 g dose of a branded liposomal glutathione (LipoDuo) and six took plain glutathione, with no blinding. The liposomal version peaked at about 1,800 ng/mL in plasma, six times higher than plain, and stayed above 500 ng/mL at 24 hours. All the authors are affiliated with one company, Samarth Biorigins (Prasad et al., British Journal of Nutrition, 2026).
Put together, the evidence says both forms can raise glutathione in the blood when taken daily. The liposomal advantage has been shown for one dose in six people, not for body stores over time, and no trial has given liposomal and plain glutathione side by side for weeks. The plain-glutathione trial is the larger, longer and better controlled of the two daily-use studies. It is fair to add that the liposomal study reached its biggest rises in 2 weeks, while the plain trial measured first at one month, so the two can’t be compared directly.
How our serve compares with the trials: one Eternal Elixir capsule gives 1,000mg of reduced glutathione, the higher dose in the six-month trial. The label serve is two capsules, 2,000mg a day, which is more than any trial here tested. For how much to take, see our glutathione dosage guide for Australia, and for how long the rises took, our guide to how long glutathione takes to work.

Benefits of liposomal glutathione: what has been shown
The honest list is short. In the one daily-use study, liposomal glutathione raised glutathione in blood and white blood cells, lowered two markers of oxidative stress (plasma 8-isoprostane by 35% and the oxidised to reduced glutathione ratio by 20%), and increased some immune function markers, including natural killer cell activity and lymphocyte growth, by up to 60% after 2 weeks. Those are lab measures in 12 healthy people without a placebo group, not changes anyone would feel.
Liposomal products also have practical benefits for some people. A liquid or a tablet that dissolves in the mouth suits anyone who can’t swallow capsules, and some liposomal capsules need no fridge. What has not been shown is that liposomal glutathione gives better results than a higher dose of plain reduced glutathione for the same money. For the broader picture of what glutathione does, see our glutathione benefits guide.
Liposomal vs reduced glutathione prices in Australia: how much for both options
This table compares each product at the serve on its own label. Cost per gram is the fairest single number, because it ignores bottle size and serve size and asks what one gram of glutathione costs you. Prices are as of Sep 2026.

Three things stand out. First, a day at the label serve can look cheap for a liposomal product, but that is partly because the serves are small: Therapure’s $1.11 buys 100mg, while our $0.89 buys 2,000mg. Second, to reach 1,000mg a day, the higher dose in both the six-month plain trial and the liposomal pilot, you would need four Codeage capsules ($4.27 a day) or ten mL of Therapure liquid, against one of our capsules. Third, the cheapest liposomal option per gram, Henry Blooms at $3.13, is a sale price, and at its RRP it doubles.
Fair notes on the others. BioCeuticals is a plain reduced glutathione that Chemist Warehouse marks practitioner only. Metagenics sells direct from its own site, and its label says to take the capsule with food, where ours says an empty stomach. Codeage gives the most glutathione per serve of the liposomal products we priced, and its label says it can be taken with or without food. Micronutrition says its capsules don’t need refrigeration. Therapure’s liquid contains ethanol and is for adults only. Our guide to glutathione at Chemist Warehouse covers the pharmacy range in more detail.
The best liposomal glutathione in Australia, if you still want one
Our overall pick stays Eternal Elixir Reduced L-Glutathione 2000mg, because it gives far more glutathione per dollar and a single capsule matches the higher dose in the six-month trial. If you want a liposomal product anyway, these are the honest labels for the ones we priced:
- Lowest cost per gram: Henry Blooms VitaQIK tablets at $3.13, while the sale price lasts. They contain sulfites and mannitol, and the label says they are not recommended in pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Most glutathione per serve: Codeage, at 500mg in two capsules.
- A capsule that needs no fridge, from an Australian brand: Micronutrition LipoCap, at 300mg per two-capsule serve.
- A liquid: Therapure, at 100mg per mL, flavoured with peppermint and lemon oils.
Whichever you choose, compare the cost per gram rather than the pack price, and check the milligrams per serve. Our best glutathione supplements in Australia compares the wider market.
Does the form matter for skin?
Many Australians buy glutathione for their skin, so it is worth knowing that the best-known skin trial didn’t use liposomal glutathione either. Healthy women took 250mg a day of reduced glutathione, 250mg of oxidised glutathione or a placebo for 12 weeks. The melanin index and UV spots tended to be lower with both forms than with placebo, the reduced form reduced wrinkles at some of the sites measured, and both were well tolerated (Weschawalit et al., Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology, 2017). In that trial even the oxidised form, which is usually treated as the inactive one, performed similarly, which suggests the form of glutathione you swallow may matter less than marketing implies. Our guides to glutathione for skin and glutathione vs vitamin C go further.
How to choose glutathione in Australia
- Check the milligrams per unit and per serve. The products we priced ranged from 100mg per serve to 2,000mg.
- Work out the cost per gram. Divide the price by the total glutathione in the pack. This single step shows most of the difference between products.
- Look for “reduced” on the label. Reduced glutathione (GSH) is the form used in the plain and liposomal trials above.
- Read the directions. Labels differ on timing: ours says an empty stomach, Metagenics says with food and Codeage says either. Follow the one on your bottle.
- Check the warnings. Several labels say adults only and not during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and one liquid contains ethanol. If you take prescription medicines, talk to your doctor first.
If you are comparing glutathione with the supplement your body uses to make it, our glutathione vs NAC comparison covers that, and our glutathione side effects guide covers safety.
Why Eternal Elixir Reduced L-Glutathione 2000mg is our pick
Eternal Elixir Reduced L-Glutathione 2000mg holds 1,000mg of reduced L-glutathione in each cellulose capsule, with rice flour as the only other ingredient. The label serve is two capsules a day on an empty stomach, 2,000mg, and a bottle of 90 capsules gives 45 serves.
- 1,000mg in one capsule. That is four times a 250mg pharmacy capsule and matches the higher dose in the six-month trial.
- $0.44 per gram of glutathione, $0.89 a serve. The lowest cost per gram of any product in our table.
- Multi-bottle savings. Two bottles save 10% ($71.98), three save 15% ($101.97) and five save 20% ($159.96), which brings a serve to $0.71. Orders over $100 ship free.
- Dispatched in 1 business day, with a 30-day money-back guarantee and Afterpay available.
Who it suits: adults who want glutathione at the doses the human trials used, in a capsule, for the least money per gram.
Who it doesn’t suit: anyone who can’t swallow capsules and would rather have a liquid or a dissolving tablet; anyone who wants a small amount alongside a skincare routine, since the label serve is 2,000mg; and anyone who needs to pick it up in a pharmacy today, since we sell online. No trial here tested 2,000mg a day. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, under 18, or take prescription medicines, talk to your doctor before taking glutathione.
Glutathione is also one of the three products in our Metabolic Wellness Stack, with TUDCA and berberine, if you want all three in one order. Other longevity staples in our range include NMN 500mg and Ca-AKG 500mg.
The verdict: is liposomal glutathione worth paying more?
For most people, no. Liposomal glutathione has a real single-dose absorption edge in one small study, but no trial shows it builds more glutathione in the body over time than plain reduced glutathione, and it costs several times as much per gram. Our pick is Eternal Elixir Reduced L-Glutathione 2000mg at $0.44 per gram and $0.89 a serve.
When liposomal makes sense: if you can’t swallow capsules, a liposomal liquid or dissolving tablet is a practical choice. Henry Blooms VitaQIK had the lowest cost per gram of the liposomal products we found while on sale.

Liposomal glutathione vs reduced L-glutathione: frequently asked questions
Is liposomal glutathione better than reduced glutathione?
Not on current evidence. One single-dose study in six people per group found a higher blood peak with liposomal glutathione, but no trial has shown it raises body glutathione more than plain reduced glutathione over weeks. Plain reduced glutathione raised body stores in a six-month placebo-controlled trial. Our pick is Eternal Elixir Reduced L-Glutathione 2000mg at $0.44 per gram.
Add Reduced L-Glutathione to cart · $39.99
Is liposomal glutathione really six times more bioavailable?
Only in one narrow sense. In a 2026 study, a single 1 g dose of a branded liposomal glutathione reached a peak plasma level about six times higher than plain glutathione. The study had six people per group, was not blinded, and all its authors are affiliated with one company. It measured one dose over 24 hours, not glutathione stores after weeks of use.
What are the benefits of liposomal glutathione?
In a 4-week pilot of 12 healthy adults taking 500mg or 1,000mg a day, liposomal glutathione raised glutathione in blood and white blood cells, lowered two oxidative stress markers and increased some immune function markers. There was no placebo group. Its practical benefit is format: liquids and dissolving tablets suit people who can’t swallow capsules.
What is the best liposomal glutathione in Australia?
Our overall pick is not liposomal: Eternal Elixir Reduced L-Glutathione 2000mg costs $0.44 per gram of glutathione. Among liposomal products, Henry Blooms VitaQIK had the lowest cost per gram we found, $3.13 on sale, and Codeage had the most per serve, 500mg in two capsules.

What is the difference between glutathione and reduced glutathione?
Glutathione exists in two states. Reduced glutathione (GSH) is the active form that neutralises reactive molecules, and oxidised glutathione (GSSG) is what it becomes afterwards, before the body recycles it. Supplement labels that say “reduced” contain GSH, as ours and BioCeuticals’ do.
Which is better, reduced glutathione or S-acetyl glutathione?
Nobody knows yet. When we searched PubMed in September 2026 we found no randomised human trial of S-acetyl glutathione, so there is nothing to compare it with. Reduced glutathione has been tested in placebo-controlled human trials, including one that ran for six months.
What does reduced glutathione do?
It is one of the body’s own antioxidants, made in cells from cysteine, glycine and glutamate. It helps neutralise reactive molecules and helps keep the balance between oxidised and reduced forms in cells. Taken daily as a supplement, it raised glutathione levels in blood and cells in a six-month human trial.
How much glutathione should I take a day?
The human trials used 250mg to 1,000mg a day. The six-month trial saw the largest rises at 1,000mg, and the liposomal pilot used 500mg or 1,000mg. One Eternal Elixir capsule has 1,000mg, and our label serve is two capsules.
When is the best time to take glutathione?
Follow your product’s label, because they differ. Ours says two capsules daily on an empty stomach, Henry Blooms says before meals, Metagenics says with food and Codeage says with or without food. No trial has compared timing.
