NMN Before and After: Real Australian Results 2026 – Eternal Elixir NMN 500mg bottle

Last updated: October 9, 2026 · Originally published: August 27, 2026 · By Eternal Elixir Editorial

Quick Answer

NMN before and after results show up in blood tests first, not in the mirror. In human trials, NMN raised blood NAD+ within 14 to 30 days. Changes in walking speed, sit-to-stand times and sleep were small, and a 2024 review of 10 trials found the physical gains were not significant. No randomised trial we found has measured skin, wrinkles or hair. To run your own 12-week before and after, our pick is Eternal Elixir NMN 500mg: 90 capsules for $59.99, one a day, which is $0.67 a day, and one bottle covers the full 12 weeks.

Eternal Elixir makes NMN 500mg, so read this as our pick with the working shown. Competitor prices were read from each live listing on 26 September 2026.

You have been taking NMN for three weeks. Nothing dramatic has happened, and somewhere online a stranger is holding up a side-by-side photo that claims years came off their face. That gap between expectation and what the research shows is the whole story behind NMN before and after.

This guide sets out what human trials measured before and after NMN, on what timeline, what a photo can’t tell you, and how to run your own honest 12-week before and after at home. The trials below were run in Japan, India, China and Switzerland. The only Australian results that will matter to you are your own, so we show you how to measure them.

What “NMN before and after” actually means

NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide) is a precursor the body converts into NAD+, a coenzyme every cell uses to turn food into usable energy. NAD+ levels fall with age, and taking NMN is an attempt to top them up. Our explainer on the difference between NMN and NAD+ supplements covers why the smaller precursor is the one sold as a capsule.

“Before and after” is a phrase borrowed from cosmetics, and that is where the confusion starts. In skincare it means a photograph. In NMN research it means blood markers and physical tests recorded at the start and repeated at fixed points. The second kind is dull and modest, and it is the only kind worth planning around.

NMN before and after: what the human trials measured

Here is what changed, and when, in the randomised trials we could verify. Doses are daily.

Time pointWhat changed compared with placeboTrial
Day 14Circulating NAD+ rose with 1,000mg of NMN65 healthy adults, Switzerland (Christen, 2026)
Day 30Blood NAD rose at 300mg, 600mg and 900mg, and six-minute walk distance improved more than placebo80 healthy middle-aged adults, India (Yi, 2023)
Week 6Runners on 600mg and 1,200mg improved some aerobic measures more than placebo, but not VO2max48 amateur runners, China (Liao, 2021)
Day 60Blood NAD and walking still up, and self-rated health better, with no change in a blood measure of insulin resistanceSame 80 adults (Yi, 2023)
Week 12At 250mg, blood NAD rose, a 4-metre walk got faster and sleep scores improved, but the main stepping test did not change60 older adults, Japan (Morifuji, 2024)

The 60-day dose trial

The most useful single study gave 80 healthy middle-aged adults a placebo or 300mg, 600mg or 900mg of NMN once a day for 60 days, with tests before, at day 30 and at day 60. Blood NAD was significantly higher in every NMN group at both points, and highest at 600mg and 900mg. The increase in six-minute walking distance was also greater than placebo at every dose, with the longest distances at 600mg and 900mg. A blood-based estimate of biological age rose in the placebo group and stayed flat on NMN. A blood measure of insulin resistance did not differ from placebo (Yi et al., GeroScience, 2023). Three of the authors work for the chemical companies Abinopharm and ABA Chemicals.

The 12-week trials in older adults

Three Japanese trials gave older adults 250mg a day for 12 weeks. In the first, 60 older adults saw higher blood NAD, a faster 4-metre walk and better sleep scores than placebo, but no difference on the main outcome, a stepping test (Morifuji et al., GeroScience, 2024). The authors work for Meiji, the food company.

In the second, 108 older adults took NMN or placebo in the morning or the afternoon. Every group, placebo included, got faster at a five-times sit-to-stand test. The afternoon NMN group had the largest effect for sit-to-stand speed and for daytime drowsiness (Kim et al., Nutrients, 2022). That placebo groups improved too is exactly why a before-and-after without a comparison can mislead. Our guide to the best time of day to take NMN covers the timing question.

In the third, 42 men aged 65 or over were randomised to NMN or placebo. NAD+ rose, gait speed and grip strength showed nominally significant improvements that the authors said need confirming in larger studies, and body composition didn’t change. A supplier mix-up meant only 20 men had usable 12-week data (Igarashi et al., npj Aging, 2022).

The runners

In a six-week trial, 48 amateur runners took a placebo or 300mg, 600mg or 1,200mg of NMN a day while training five to six times a week. Oxygen use and power at the ventilatory thresholds rose more at 600mg and 1,200mg than on placebo. VO2max and peak power did not change in any group (Liao et al., Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, 2021).

What the reviews say

Single trials can mislead in either direction, so it helps to look at reviews. A 2024 systematic review of 10 randomised trials, covering 437 people taking 150mg to 1,200mg a day for four to 12 weeks, found physical performance improved slightly but not significantly, with no serious side effects (Wen et al., Cureus, 2024).

A 2026 meta-analysis of 15 randomised trials, at 250mg to 2,000mg a day for 14 days to 24 weeks, found NMN did not increase adverse events or liver enzymes. It also found no significant effect on body weight, fasting glucose, HbA1c, blood fats or systolic blood pressure, and a small fall in diastolic blood pressure (Yang et al., Nutrients, 2026).

Put together, the honest summary is this. NMN reliably raises NAD+ in blood. Effects on how you move, sleep and feel are small, sometimes absent, and not yet consistent across trials. For more on what NMN does and doesn’t do, see our guide to NMN benefits in Australia.

Many people take NMN alongside trans-resveratrol. If you do, our trans-resveratrol is 600mg per capsule, two capsules a day, and you can add both in one step below.

Will NMN make you look younger?

We found no randomised trial of oral NMN that measured skin, wrinkles or hair. The trials above measured blood NAD+, walking, strength, sleep, fatigue and blood markers. So there is no trial evidence behind the transformation photos, in either direction.

Photos also fail as evidence for simple reasons.

  • No comparison group. In the Japanese sit-to-stand trial, the placebo groups improved too. A photo series of one person can’t separate the capsule from better sleep, a new routine or simply paying attention.
  • Lighting and angle. Skin looks different with hydration, time of day, lens and light direction, and none of those are controlled in phone photos taken months apart.
  • Selection. People post striking results. Nobody uploads “12 weeks of NMN, looks the same”, so what you see online is the extreme end.

Track your own NMN before and after: a 12-week self-test

Instead of a photo, borrow the tests the researchers used. Each one below appeared in a trial above and needs nothing more than a chair, a stopwatch and a flat footpath.

MeasureHow to record itWhenWhat a real change looks like
Five-times sit-to-standTime yourself standing up from a dining chair five times, arms crossedDay 0, week 6, week 12Faster by a few seconds, repeated over two attempts
Six-minute walkWalk at your fastest comfortable pace for six minutes on a flat route and note the distanceDay 0, week 4, week 8, week 12More distance at the same effort
Daytime drowsinessRate afternoon sleepiness from 1 to 10 at the same hour each dayDaily, averaged weeklyA lower weekly average held for a month
SleepNote how long you take to fall asleep and how often you wakeWeeklyFewer wakings and faster sleep onset
Grip strengthIf your gym has a hand dynamometer, record your best of three squeezesDay 0, week 12A higher best score, same hand, same time of day

Two rules make this worth doing. Record your baseline before the first capsule, because a before and after with no “before” is just an after. Then change nothing else for 12 weeks. If you start NMN, a new gym program and a sleep tracker in the same week, you will learn nothing about NMN.

Twelve weeks also fits the labels. The two Chemist Warehouse NMN labels we checked say not to use it for more than 12 weeks. For dose and timing, see our Australian NMN dosage guide, and for the week-by-week picture, how long NMN takes to work.

Downsides, safety and what NMN hasn’t been shown to do

Short-term safety looks reassuring. In a four-week randomised trial, 31 healthy adults aged 20 to 65 took 1,250mg of NMN a day, or a placebo, with no changes beyond normal variation in blood, urine or body measurements and no severe adverse events (Fukamizu et al., Scientific Reports, 2022). The 2026 meta-analysis above found no rise in adverse events or liver enzymes. Both involved short trials, and long-term human data is still limited, which we cover in our review of five years of NMN safety research.

What NMN hasn’t been shown to do in people:

  • Change how skin or hair looks. No randomised trial we found has measured it.
  • Shift body weight, blood sugar or blood fats, according to the 2026 meta-analysis.
  • Match the results seen in mice. Animal work has been far more impressive than human work, and that gap is the most important thing to know before you spend money.

Talk to your doctor before starting NMN if you take prescription medicine. The Chemist Warehouse labels above say not to use NMN if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Who each one suits, and who it doesn’t:

  • Eternal Elixir NMN 500mg. One 500mg capsule a day, preferably in the morning, and 90 capsules to the bottle, so a single bottle covers a 12-week test. It ships from Sydney within 24 hours. It suits anyone who wants one bottle, one capsule a day and a fixed routine. Three bottles at 15% off bring it to $0.57 a day with free shipping.
  • Bulk Nutrients NMN Capsules. A 500mg capsule, one or two a day, 120 to the tub. At one capsule a day it has the lowest single-pack cost per day in our table, a cent under ours, and the listing publishes batch certificates of analysis. It showed 4.64 stars from 137 reviews on the day we checked.
  • Naturecan NMN. A 500mg capsule, one a day, in 60, 120 or 180 capsule sizes, made in Europe. The 120-capsule bottle covers a 12-week test.
  • Bioglan NMN 500. A 500mg capsule, one a day, sold at Chemist Warehouse. Thirty capsules means three packs for a 12-week test. The label says not to use it for more than 12 weeks, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Melrose FutureLab NMN 500mg. Each capsule adds 250mg of dimethylglycine (DMG) to the 500mg of NMN. The label caps NMN at 500mg a day and says to use it for 12 weeks or less. It is the dearest per day in our table.

Our serve compared with the trial doses

Our capsule gives 500mg a day. That is double the 250mg used in the three Japanese trials of older adults, and it sits inside the 300mg to 900mg range of the 60-day trial, where 600mg and 900mg gave the highest blood NAD. It is half the 1,000mg used in the Swiss 14-day study and below the 1,250mg a day tested for short-term safety. The trials used different NMN sources, so treat these as rough comparisons rather than exact equivalents.

Which NMN to use for your 12-week test

Our pick is Eternal Elixir NMN 500mg. One capsule a day gives 500mg, a single 90-capsule bottle lasts the whole 12 weeks with six to spare, and it costs $0.67 a day, or $0.57 a day when you buy three bottles with free shipping. Orders ship from Sydney within 24 hours with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

If you only care about the lowest single-pack price per day, Bulk Nutrients is a cent cheaper at $0.66. If you want to compare two NAD+ routes, we also stock Pure NR 500mg, and our NMN vs NR comparison sets out the differences. Many people also pair NMN with trans-resveratrol, which we compare in NMN vs resveratrol. Whichever you choose, the method is the same: one product, one dose, 12 weeks, honest notes.

NMN before and after: frequently asked questions

How long do you need to take NMN to see results?

Blood NAD+ rose within 14 to 30 days in the trials. Changes in walking, sit-to-stand speed and sleep were measured at six to 12 weeks, and were small. Give it 12 weeks at a steady dose, with a baseline recorded first, before you judge it.

Does taking NMN actually work?

It reliably raises NAD+ in blood. Whether that changes how you feel is less clear: some trials found small gains in walking, sleep or aerobic measures, and a 2024 review of 10 trials found the physical performance gains were not significant. Expect modest changes, if any.

Will NMN make me look younger?

There is no trial evidence either way. We found no randomised trial of oral NMN that measured skin, wrinkles or hair, so the transformation photos online are not backed by research.

What are the downsides of taking NMN?

The main ones are cost, limited long-term data and the risk of expecting more than modest changes. Short trials, including one at 1,250mg a day for four weeks, found no safety problems. Talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medicine, and don’t use it if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Which NMN supplement do we recommend?

Our pick is Eternal Elixir NMN 500mg: 500mg per capsule, 90 capsules for $59.99, one bottle for a full 12 weeks, shipped from Sydney. Eternal Elixir makes it, so weigh that. Bulk Nutrients is a cent cheaper per day at one capsule. Our NMN comparison covers more brands.

What should I avoid when taking NMN?

Avoid changing several things at once, skipping doses, and judging results from a mirror instead of a measure. Take one capsule at the same time each day so your own before and after is easy to read.

Is it better to take NMN in the morning or the afternoon?

Our label says preferably in the morning. One Japanese trial found the largest effects in its afternoon group, though its placebo groups also improved, so timing is not settled. Pick a time and keep it the same for the whole 12 weeks.
