Best TMG Supplements Australia 2026: 6 Compared on Cost – Eternal Elixir TMG 2000mg bottle

Last updated: September 27, 2026 · Originally published: September 12, 2026 · By Eternal Elixir Editorial

Quick answer: our pick for the best TMG supplement in Australia is Eternal Elixir TMG 2000mg. Its label serve is three capsules giving 2,000 mg of trimethylglycine, inside the 1.5 to 6 g a day range used in the main human trial, and a 90-capsule bottle lasts 30 days for $44.99. It ships from Sydney within 24 hours. Eternal Elixir makes it, and it costs more per gram than the powders. If price per gram is what you care about, Switch Nutrition’s powder costs well under half as much per 2,000 mg.

TMG, also sold as betaine anhydrous, is the same molecule in every product below. What changes is the form, the price and, most of all, the serve printed on the label. We compared six TMG supplements sold in Australia on the one number that makes them comparable: cost per 2,000 mg.

Best TMG supplements in Australia 2026: the comparison table

Prices as of Sep 2026, taken from each seller’s own product page. Label serves run from 686 mg to 2,000 mg across these six products, so the key column is cost per 2,000 mg, which divides the price by the total TMG in the pack. Eternal Elixir makes TMG 2000mg. It is our pick, and every figure for the other products comes from their own labels and listings.

Powders are cheaper per gram than capsules. Ours costs more per gram than the powders and Bulk Nutrients’ capsules, and less than Naturecan and DoNotAge. What the table also shows is that only two labels here, ours and Switch’s, give a daily serve that reaches the doses used in the human trials. The others would have you take more than the label says to get there.

Why the label serve matters more than the price tag

TMG (trimethylglycine) is a methyl donor. It carries three methyl groups and hands one to homocysteine, turning it back into methionine. That is the main reason people take it, and the effect depends on the dose.

The clearest human evidence comes from a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in The Journal of Nutrition. Four groups of 19 healthy adults took 1.5 g, 3 g or 6 g of betaine a day, or a placebo, for 6 weeks. Fasting plasma homocysteine ended up 12%, 15% and 20% lower than placebo at the three doses (Olthof and colleagues, 2003). A later meta-analysis of five randomised trials in healthy adults, all using at least 4 g a day for 6 to 24 weeks, also found a significant fall in homocysteine (McRae, 2013).

Now apply that to the shelf. A 600 mg or 686 mg capsule is well below the lowest trial dose, and so is a 1 g scoop. That doesn’t make those products bad. It means the “servings per pack” on the front of the tub isn’t the number to divide the price by if you’re aiming for a studied dose, and in some cases the label doesn’t allow that dose at all.

TMG in food, and why supplements use betaine anhydrous

You already eat some TMG. Betaine is found in foods such as beetroot, spinach and whole grains, and the Journal of Nutrition trial authors put typical dietary intake at roughly 0.5 to 2 g a day. Your body also makes betaine from choline. Supplements matter only if you want a steady intake at the top of that range or above it, which is where the trial doses sit.

On a supplement label, TMG appears as trimethylglycine, TMG or betaine anhydrous. All three are the same thing. Betaine HCl is a different product, sold for stomach acid, and isn’t what the homocysteine trials used.

How to read a TMG label in four checks

  1. The name. Look for trimethylglycine or betaine anhydrous on the panel. If it says betaine HCl, it’s the wrong product for this purpose.
  2. The serve size in milligrams. Our comparison runs from 686 mg to 2,000 mg per serve. Compare that with the 1.5 to 6 g range used in the trial.
  3. The pack size. Multiply the serve by the number of serves to get the total TMG, then divide the price by it. That’s how we got every cost per 2,000 mg figure on this page.
  4. The directions and other ingredients. Some labels cap you below the trial doses, and some add rice flour, magnesium stearate or silicon dioxide. Ours contains rice flour. None of these change what the TMG does, but you should know what you’re taking.

TMG and NMN: how much methyl support do you actually need?

Many people come to TMG through NAD+. They’ve started NMN or nicotinamide riboside, read that clearing the extra nicotinamide uses up methyl groups, and gone looking for a methyl donor to take alongside it.

The biology behind that idea is real. When your cells use NAD+, they release nicotinamide, and one way the body clears extra nicotinamide is an enzyme called NNMT, which attaches a methyl group to it. Taking NMN or NR gives your body more nicotinamide to process, so more methyl groups get used. TMG is one of the body’s main methyl donors, which is why the two are often paired.

What isn’t settled is how much TMG that calls for. No human trial has set an NMN-to-TMG ratio, so any ratio you see quoted is a guess. What we can say:

  • The doses with human homocysteine data behind them are 1.5 g to 6 g of betaine a day.
  • A 2,000 mg serve sits inside that range.
  • Nothing in the research says you need to scale TMG to your NMN dose.
  • If your homocysteine is normal and you don’t take an NAD+ precursor, the case for TMG is weaker than the marketing suggests.

If you’re still choosing a precursor, our comparison of NMN versus NR covers that decision, and the Australian NMN buying guide compares the products. For the biology, read what trimethylglycine is and our explainer on TMG benefits for methylation and the liver.

#1. Eternal Elixir TMG 2000mg: our pick for a studied dose in one serve

Label facts: 90 capsules per bottle, 30 serves. Take 3 capsules daily with a meal, giving 2,000 mg of trimethylglycine (betaine anhydrous). Other ingredients are rice flour and a vegetable capsule.

At $44.99, that’s $1.50 per 2,000 mg serve, more than the powders and Bulk Nutrients’ capsules, so we won’t pretend it’s the budget choice. What you pay for is a label serve that already lands inside the studied range with no counting or scooping, and a supplier that also sells the NAD+ precursors TMG is usually paired with: NMN 500mg and Pure NR 500mg. It ships from Sydney within 24 hours with a 30-day money-back guarantee, Afterpay and free shipping over $100. Two bottles save 10%, three save 15% and five save 20%. You can request the current batch certificate of analysis.

  • Suits you if you want 2,000 mg a day without measuring, and you’d like your TMG and NMN or NR in one order.
  • Doesn’t suit you if you want the lowest cost per gram, or you’d rather not swallow three capsules.

#2. Switch Nutrition TMG: cheapest per gram, and its label reaches the studied range

Label facts: 100% pure trimethylglycine powder. Serve size 1 g (1 scoop), 150 serves per container. Directions are 1 to 3 serves daily with food. It’s made in a facility that also handles wheat, tree nuts, seeds, dairy, soy, corn and fish.

Direct from Switch it’s $44.95, which works out to $0.60 per 2,000 mg. The same tub is $39.90 at Elite Supps and $39.95 at Australian Sports Nutrition, or about $0.53 per 2,000 mg. Switch offers free shipping over $150 and a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Its 1 to 3 scoop direction is the only label here, besides ours, that reaches 2 g a day.

Where to buy: Switch Nutrition TMG on switchnutrition.com.au

  • Suits you if you’re happy to scoop powder and want a studied dose for the least money.
  • Doesn’t suit you if you dislike the slightly sweet, salty taste of betaine in water, or have one of the allergies listed above.

#3. myBrainCo TMG Powder 100g: small tub to try it

Label facts: 100 g of trimethylglycine powder, 1 g serve, 100 serves. The recommended daily quantity is 1 serve, and the label says not to exceed it. It isn’t suitable for children under 15, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

At $29.95 it’s $0.60 per 2,000 mg, the same as Switch direct, or $0.30 a day at its 1 g label serve. Subscribe and save takes 15% off, shipping is free over $99, and first purchases carry a 45-day money-back guarantee.

The catch: its label caps you at 1 g a day, below the 1.5 g lowest dose in the homocysteine trial.

Where to buy: myBrainCo TMG Powder 100g

  • Suits you if you want a small, cheap tub to see how you get on with TMG at 1 g a day.
  • Doesn’t suit you if you want to follow a label that reaches the doses used in the trials.

#4. Bulk Nutrients TMG Capsules: cheapest capsule per gram

Label facts: 120 capsules at 600 mg trimethylglycine (as betaine anhydrous) each. Directions are 1 to 2 capsules (600 to 1,200 mg) per day. It’s labelled a formulated supplementary sports food, not suitable for children under 15 or pregnant women.

At $29.00 it’s $0.81 per 2,000 mg, the cheapest capsule here per gram. Four tubs drop to $27.00 each, and shipping is a flat $9 Australia-wide.

At the label’s 1 to 2 capsules, you get 600 to 1,200 mg, below the trial doses.

Where to buy: Bulk Nutrients TMG Capsules

  • Suits you if you want capsules at the lowest price per gram.
  • Doesn’t suit you if you want a label serve that reaches 1.5 g or more.

#5. Naturecan TMG Supplement: one capsule a day

Label facts: 60 capsules, each with 686 mg betaine anhydrous, 60 servings. Take 1 capsule a day with water, ideally with food. Not suitable for children, or for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. The only other ingredient is the HPMC capsule, and the page links a certificate of analysis.

At $34.00 (listed down from $40.00), that’s $0.57 a day at the label serve but $1.65 per 2,000 mg. Orders ship from Naturecan’s UK warehouse, with 7 to 14 business days of transit.

Where to buy: Naturecan TMG Supplement

  • Suits you if you want one small capsule a day and aren’t aiming for a trial dose.
  • Doesn’t suit you if you want it quickly or want 1.5 g or more a day.

#6. DoNotAge Pure TMG: priced in AUD, dearest per gram

Label facts: 500 mg TMG per HPMC capsule, with a recommended daily serving of 1,000 mg (two capsules). The 60-capsule bottle is $32.00 on DoNotAge’s Australian store, and a 366-capsule size is also sold. DoNotAge ships from distribution centres in the UK, USA and EU, with free delivery on orders over $300.

That’s $1.07 a day at the label serve and $2.13 per 2,000 mg, the highest in this comparison.

Where to buy: DoNotAge Pure TMG (choose the Australian store)

  • Suits you if you already order other DoNotAge products.
  • Doesn’t suit you if cost per gram matters.

How we picked the best TMG supplement in each category

Eternal Elixir makes TMG 2000mg, and it is our pick. We don’t call this list neutral. We compared the other products from their published labels and live prices, checked in September 2026. We didn’t lab-test anyone’s product, including our own. Numbers 2 to 6 are ordered by cost per 2,000 mg, cheapest first, which is the fairest single measure for a commodity ingredient like betaine. We also noted, for each product, whether its own label serve reaches the doses used in the human trials.

What we left out: marketplace listings of bulk betaine powder on Amazon and eBay. They can be cheaper again per gram, but sellers, stock and pack sizes change often, and we couldn’t confirm a current Australian price and pack size for one on the day we checked. We also left out pre-workouts and multi-ingredient blends that contain some betaine, because you can’t fairly compare their TMG cost with a single-ingredient product.

Capsules or powder? The only question that really changes your cost

In this comparison, capsules cost $0.81 to $2.13 per 2,000 mg and powders cost $0.53 to $0.60. Betaine is the same molecule in both, so the capsule premium buys convenience and a fixed dose, not a better ingredient.

Powder tastes faintly sweet with a salty edge, and a daily scoop-and-stir is one more step than swallowing capsules with breakfast. If you know you’ll keep scooping, buy powder. If you’ve given up on tubs before, pay for capsules.

The one thing not worth paying extra for is a “premium” form of TMG. Unlike magnesium, where the form changes where it goes (see our magnesium L-threonate comparison), betaine anhydrous is betaine anhydrous. Check the panel says trimethylglycine or betaine anhydrous, check the pack size, and buy on format and price.

What 2,000 mg a day costs over a year

This table shows how long each pack would last, and what a year would cost, if you used it to get 2,000 mg a day. Only our label and Switch’s reach 2,000 mg a day as written. For the other four, 2,000 mg is more than the label says to take, so read this as a price comparison, not a dosing suggestion.

ProductDays per pack at 2,000 mgCost per year at 2,000 mg a dayLabel allows 2,000 mg a day?
Eternal Elixir TMG 2000mg30about $547Yes
Switch Nutrition TMG (Elite Supps price)75about $194Yes (1 to 3 g)

Naturecan TMG Supplement20about $603No (686 mg)
DoNotAge Pure TMG15about $779No (1,000 mg)

If you’re going to take TMG for a year at a studied dose, powder saves the most. If you’ll only stick with capsules, ours is the capsule whose label is built around 2,000 mg a day.

How to take TMG

  • With food. Our label says to take the three capsules with a meal, and Switch’s label says with food. You can take all three together with breakfast or split them across the day.
  • Powder: stir the scoops into water, juice or a shake. Use a dry scoop and reseal the tub, because betaine powder draws in moisture.
  • Timing: no trial has compared morning with evening doses. Pick a time you’ll remember and keep to it.
  • Checking whether it’s working: you won’t feel a change in homocysteine. If you want to know, ask your doctor about a blood test before you start and again after a couple of months.

Where to buy the best TMG supplement in Australia

Your options are online: sports nutrition sellers (Bulk Nutrients, Switch and its stockists such as Elite Supps and Australian Sports Nutrition), longevity brands (Eternal Elixir, myBrainCo), and overseas brands that ship here (Naturecan, DoNotAge). Free-shipping thresholds vary from $99 to $300, so if you’re buying TMG with something else, pairing it with an NAD+ supplement or a liver support product can get you over the line.

Is TMG safe to take every day?

The trials that produced the homocysteine data used daily doses for 6 to 24 weeks. Two things to know before you start:

  • Cholesterol at higher doses. A meta-analysis of six randomised trials found that at least 4 g a day for six weeks or more raised total cholesterol by about 0.34 mmol/L (Zawieja and colleagues, 2021). A second meta-analysis found doses under 4 g a day lowered homocysteine without that effect on blood lipids (Ashtary-Larky and colleagues, 2022). A 2,000 mg serve sits under that line.
  • Blood pressure. The same 2022 meta-analysis found betaine didn’t affect blood pressure.

Several labels here say not to use TMG during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and not for children. If you have a kidney condition, manage your cholesterol, or take prescription medicines, talk to your doctor first.

If you’re pairing TMG with an NAD+ precursor, our NMN 500mg comes in 90-capsule bottles at one capsule a day. The NMN dosage guide covers how much to take, and our NR comparison covers the alternative precursor.

The verdict: which is the best TMG supplement for you?

  • Our pick: Eternal Elixir TMG 2000mg, $44.99. A three-capsule serve of 2,000 mg, 30 serves per bottle, Sydney dispatch, and NMN or NR in the same order.
  • Lowest cost per gram with a label that reaches the studied range: Switch Nutrition TMG powder, about $0.53 to $0.60 per 2,000 mg.
  • Cheapest capsule per gram: Bulk Nutrients TMG Capsules, $0.81 per 2,000 mg, if you’re happy to take more than the label’s 1 to 2 capsules.
  • A small tub to try TMG: myBrainCo TMG Powder 100g, at its 1 g label serve.

Frequently asked questions

Which brand of TMG is the best in Australia?

Our pick is Eternal Elixir TMG 2000mg: three capsules give 2,000 mg, inside the 1.5 to 6 g range used in the main human trial, and a 90-capsule bottle is $44.99 and ships from Sydney. Eternal Elixir makes it. For the lowest cost per gram, Switch Nutrition’s TMG powder costs about $0.53 to $0.60 per 2,000 mg and its label allows up to 3 g a day.

Does a TMG supplement really work?

For lowering homocysteine, yes, the human evidence is consistent. In a six-week placebo-controlled trial of healthy adults, fasting homocysteine ended up 12%, 15% and 20% lower than placebo at 1.5 g, 3 g and 6 g of betaine a day, and a meta-analysis of five randomised trials reached the same conclusion. Claims beyond homocysteine and methylation, such as energy, focus or fat loss, rest on much thinner evidence.

Who should avoid taking TMG?

Several labels in this comparison say not to use TMG during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for children under 15. If you have a kidney condition, are managing your cholesterol, or take prescription medicines, speak to your doctor first, because doses of 4 g a day or more have raised total cholesterol in trials.

Where can I find TMG supplements in Australia?

Online, from Australian brands and retailers such as Eternal Elixir, Bulk Nutrients, myBrainCo, Switch Nutrition and its stockists Elite Supps and Australian Sports Nutrition, and from overseas brands that ship here, including Naturecan and DoNotAge.

Is it safe to take TMG daily?

The human trials used daily doses for 6 to 24 weeks. At 4 g a day or more, betaine raised total cholesterol by about 0.34 mmol/L in a meta-analysis, while doses under 4 g a day lowered homocysteine without that lipid effect. Avoid it in pregnancy and breastfeeding, and talk to your doctor if you have a kidney condition, manage your cholesterol or take prescription medicines.

Does TMG really build muscle?

Not clearly. In a placebo-controlled trial of 23 untrained young women, 2.5 g of betaine a day during 8 weeks of resistance training didn’t add strength or lean mass beyond what training alone produced, though body fat fell more in the betaine group (Cholewa and colleagues, 2018). Treat muscle-building claims with caution.

Does TMG affect blood pressure?

A 2022 meta-analysis of betaine trials found no effect on blood pressure. It did find higher total and LDL cholesterol at doses of 4 g a day or more.

How long does it take for TMG to kick in?

In the Journal of Nutrition trial, 3 g and 6 g of betaine blunted the rise in homocysteine after a methionine loading test on the very first day, and fasting homocysteine was lower after 6 weeks. You won’t feel a homocysteine change, so the only way to see it is a blood test.

How much TMG should I take with NMN?

No human trial has set an NMN-to-TMG ratio. What has been studied is betaine at 1.5 to 6 g a day, and a 2,000 mg serve sits inside that range. Our NMN dosage guide covers the precursor side.

Is TMG powder or capsules better value?

Powder. In this comparison, powders cost $0.53 to $0.60 per 2,000 mg and capsules $0.81 to $2.13. It’s the same molecule in both, so capsules buy convenience, not a better ingredient.

What foods contain TMG?

Beetroot, spinach and whole grains are good sources of betaine. Typical diets provide roughly 0.5 to 2 g a day, according to the authors of the main homocysteine trial, which is below the higher doses they tested.

Should I take TMG in the morning or at night?

No trial has compared the two. Our label says to take it with a meal, so breakfast is the simplest habit, and many people take it with their morning NMN. Consistency matters more than the time of day.

Is TMG the same as betaine anhydrous?

Yes. Trimethylglycine, TMG and betaine anhydrous are the same compound. Betaine HCl is different: it’s sold as a stomach-acid supplement and won’t do what TMG does, so check the panel before you buy.
