Quick answer: No study has measured how long turkesterone takes to work, because no trial has given people turkesterone for longer than a single dose. The one ecdysteroid trial that found a benefit ran for 10 weeks, and two others found no difference from placebo at 4, 8 or 12 weeks. So if you try turkesterone, take it daily with meals for 8 to 10 weeks of steady training before you judge it. Reports of fuller pumps in the first week or two come from users, not from trials. Our own Turkesterone 500mg is sold out. Our in-stock pick for the training and testosterone side of the same goal is Eternal Elixir Tongkat Ali 200:1 Extract 2000mg, a different herb with placebo-controlled trials that measured changes from week 4: 90 capsules, $1.33 a serve, sent from Sydney.
Eternal Elixir makes Tongkat Ali 200:1 Extract 2000mg, and it is our pick in this guide, so weigh our view with that in mind. Tongkat Ali is not an ecdysteroid and does not work the way turkesterone is claimed to. Every study figure below comes from the published paper, linked in the sources at the end.

How long does turkesterone take to work? The short answer
Nobody has measured it. Turkesterone is an ecdysteroid, a plant compound with a steroid-like shape taken from the herb Ajuga turkestanica. The only human study of turkesterone itself gave 11 healthy young men single doses of 1,000mg and 2,000mg and followed them for 24 hours. It found no significant change in IGF-1, resting metabolic rate or how their bodies used fat and carbohydrate.
For anything longer, we have to borrow from ecdysterone, turkesterone’s better-studied relative. In a 10-week strength training trial, 46 young men given ecdysterone supplements gained more muscle mass and bench-press strength than those who weren’t. An 8-week trial in 45 trained men found no difference from placebo at 4 or 8 weeks, and a 12-week trial of a commercial product found none at 4, 8 or 12 weeks.
That gives a fair rule of thumb. If turkesterone does anything you can measure, the trials suggest it would take weeks of consistent training to show, and 8 to 10 weeks is a reasonable test. If nothing has changed in your training log by then, a longer run is unlikely to help.
What happens week by week on turkesterone
Here is what the human studies measured at each point, next to what people commonly report. The reports are anecdotes. The trial column is what was actually tested.
| Timeframe | What the trials measured | What people report | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| First 24 hours | Turkesterone at 1,000mg or 2,000mg: no significant change in IGF-1 or metabolism (11 men) | Nothing noticeable | Take it with a meal, as labels say |
| Weeks 1 to 2 | No trial data | Fuller pumps, slightly better recovery | Log your main lifts and body weight as a baseline |
| Week 4 | Ecdysterone 200mg a day: no difference from placebo (45 men). Commercial ecdysterone product: no difference (24 men finished) | Small strength gains | Keep training, protein and sleep steady |
| Week 8 | Both trials above: still no difference from placebo | Some report visible change | Compare your log with a normal training block |
| Week 10 | Ecdysterone supplements: more muscle mass and bench press gain than placebo (46 men) | A clearer verdict | Decide whether to continue or stop |
| Week 12 | Commercial product: no difference, and its capsules held less than 1% of the ecdysterone on the label | Most people stop and reassess | If nothing changed, stop |
Two things stand out. No trial found any difference from placebo before week 10. And the one trial that did find a benefit used ecdysterone, not turkesterone. Our guide to turkesterone versus ecdysterone explains why the research sits with the better-studied relative.
Turkesterone timelines for muscle and strength goals
For muscle growth
Muscle is slow to build with or without a supplement. The positive ecdysterone trial measured muscle mass after 10 weeks of supervised strength training, so any faster claim for turkesterone has no trial behind it. Muscle only grows when training volume, food and protein are all adequate, and no supplement changes that.
For strength and performance
Strength usually moves before size, partly because your nervous system gets better at a lift with practice. That happens with or without a supplement, which is why the placebo groups in these trials also got stronger. If performance is your main goal, our comparison of turkesterone versus creatine is worth reading, because creatine has far more human research behind it.
What the research says about the turkesterone timeline
- Turkesterone, 11 men, single doses (Harris et al., 2024). Healthy men with an average age of 23 took one dose of 1,000mg, 2,000mg or a placebo on separate visits at least 7 days apart. The researchers chose those doses because, they wrote, most manufacturers recommend 1,000mg a day and suggest not going above 2,000mg. IGF-1, resting metabolic rate and fuel use did not change significantly. IGF-1 drifted up without reaching significance, and heart rate, blood pressure and stomach symptoms didn’t change.
- Ecdysterone, 46 young men, 10 weeks (Isenmann et al., 2019). Men on a strength program took ecdysterone supplements at different doses or none. Those given ecdysterone gained significantly more muscle mass and one-rep bench press than the others, with no rise in liver or kidney markers.
- Ecdysterone, 45 trained men, 8 weeks (Wilborn et al., 2006). 200mg of ecdysterone a day or a placebo, tested at 0, 4 and 8 weeks. There was no difference in lean mass, body fat, bench press, leg press or sprint power, and no change in testosterone or cortisol.
- Commercial ecdysterone and diosgenin product, 28 trained men, 12 weeks (Dissemond et al., 2025). The product was taken three times a day, as its label said. Both groups got stronger and gained muscle, with no difference between them at 4, 8 or 12 weeks. When the researchers tested the capsules, they held less than 1% of the ecdysterone the label claimed.
What hasn’t been shown. No human trial has tested turkesterone over weeks of training, so there is no measured timeline for it at all. None of these studies showed a rise in testosterone, and the 2006 trial measured it directly. Claims that turkesterone is stronger than ecdysterone come from cell and animal work, not human trials, and those results don’t carry over to people automatically. Researchers think ecdysteroids may act through a different route from anabolic steroids, but that idea also comes from cell and animal studies. Our turkesterone 101 guide covers that theory, and our turkesterone benefits and safety overview covers the wider background.
What affects how quickly you’d see results
- Whether the capsule holds what the label says. The 2025 trial is a warning: a product with less than 1% of its claimed active compound did nothing. Choose a brand that names Ajuga turkestanica extract, states a standardisation percentage and will show you batch testing for the active compound.
- Training. In every trial above, the placebo group got stronger too. Without progressive strength training, there is nothing for a supplement to add to.
- Food and protein. Muscle needs enough energy and protein to grow. If either is short, no supplement makes up for it.
- Consistency. A dose taken every day with meals is a fair test. Taking it on and off makes any change impossible to judge.
- You. Age, sleep, training history and genetics all change how quickly anyone responds to training.
How to run a fair turkesterone trial
If you decide to try turkesterone, set it up so you can tell whether it worked:
- Dose. Most labels suggest 500mg to 1,000mg a day, usually one or two 500mg capsules with meals. That is the range the market uses, not a dose any trial has shown to work. Our turkesterone dosage guide goes through the numbers.
- Timing. With a meal, at the same time each day. No study has compared morning with evening or before training with after. The Harris team wrote that turkesterone’s half-life isn’t known and is assumed to be similar to ecdysterone’s, estimated at 4 to 9 hours.
- Length. 8 to 10 weeks at a steady dose, with training and protein held constant. Many people then stop for about 4 weeks. That cycle is a gym habit rather than a research finding.
- Measures. Record two or three main lifts, body weight and a monthly photo before you start. Judge the result on those, not on how a session feels.
- Quality. Our comparison of the turkesterone supplements sold in Australia sets out what to check on a label.
If you compete in a drug-tested sport, check your sport’s rules first. The authors of the 2019 ecdysterone trial recommended that ecdysterone be added to the list of substances prohibited in sport. Our explainer on whether turkesterone shows up on a drug test covers the detail.
Our in-stock pick for the same goal: Tongkat Ali 200:1
Eternal Elixir doesn’t have turkesterone in stock at the moment. For the testosterone side of training, our pick is Eternal Elixir Tongkat Ali 200:1 Extract 2000mg. Tongkat Ali (Eurycoma longifolia) is a Southeast Asian root. Unlike turkesterone, it has placebo-controlled trials that measured changes over weeks:
- 105 men aged 50 to 70, 12 weeks. Their testosterone was below 300 ng/dL at the start. They took 100mg or 200mg of a standardised water extract (Physta) or a placebo each day. Total testosterone rose more than on placebo from week 4 in the 200mg group and at week 12 in the 100mg group, and fatigue scores fell. The extract’s maker funded the study, and two of the authors worked for it (Chinnappan et al., 2021).
- 63 moderately stressed adults, 4 weeks. 32 men and 31 women took 200mg of the same extract or a placebo. In the Tongkat Ali group, salivary cortisol exposure fell by 16% and testosterone status rose by 37% (Talbott et al., 2013).
- Pooled evidence. A 2022 meta-analysis of five randomised trials found a significant rise in total testosterone in men taking Tongkat Ali (Leisegang et al., 2022).
How our serve compares with the trials. Our label gives 2,000mg of a 200:1 root extract per three-capsule serve. By weight, that is ten times the 200mg Physta dose used in the trials. The extracts are made differently, though, and our label states an extraction ratio rather than a eurycomanone percentage, so the milligram figures can’t be compared directly and more milligrams doesn’t mean a bigger effect. No trial has tested our exact extract.
- What’s in the bottle: Eurycoma longifolia root extract 200:1, 2,000mg per serve, with rice flour and a cellulose capsule.
- How to take it: three capsules a day on an empty stomach, the opposite of turkesterone’s with-food advice. A bottle of 90 capsules lasts 30 days.
- Price: $39.99 a bottle, or $1.33 a serve, with free shipping over $100 and Afterpay available.
- Testing and dispatch: our product page says every batch is third-party tested for purity and potency, and we will send the current certificate of analysis if you ask. Orders ship from Sydney within 24 hours, with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
Who it suits: men who want to support healthy testosterone levels alongside training, using a herb with human trials, at $1.33 a serve.
Who it doesn’t suit: anyone who wants an ecdysteroid specifically, anyone under 18, and anyone pregnant or breastfeeding. If you take propranolol or any other regular prescription medicine, talk to your doctor first: in a study of 14 healthy young men, a Tongkat Ali water extract cut the amount of propranolol absorbed by 29%.

Turkesterone safety while you wait for results
The safety data are thin because the studies are few and short. In the single-dose turkesterone study, heart rate, blood pressure and stomach symptoms didn’t change at 1,000mg or 2,000mg. In the 10-week ecdysterone trial, liver and kidney markers didn’t rise. Neither tells you what happens over months.
Turkesterone is not for anyone under 18 or anyone pregnant or breastfeeding. If you take medication or have a health condition, speak to your doctor before you start. Taking capsules with food, as labels suggest, is the simplest way to avoid an upset stomach.
How long does turkesterone take to work: frequently asked questions
How long does it take for turkesterone to take effect?
No trial has measured it, because no study has given turkesterone for more than a single dose. The ecdysterone trial that found a benefit ran for 10 weeks, and trials at 4, 8 and 12 weeks found no difference from placebo. Give it 8 to 10 weeks of steady training before you judge it.
How much turkesterone to take per day?
Most labels suggest 500mg to 1,000mg a day, usually one or two 500mg capsules with meals. No trial has shown that any daily dose works. The only turkesterone study used single doses of 1,000mg and 2,000mg, so staying at or below the label dose is the cautious choice. Our turkesterone dosage guide has the detail.
What time of day to take turkesterone?
With a meal, at the same time each day. No study has compared morning, evening or around-training timing. If you take 1,000mg, one capsule at breakfast and one at dinner is a common habit, based on an estimated half-life of 4 to 9 hours.
What happens to your body when you take turkesterone?
In the only human study, a single dose of 1,000mg or 2,000mg caused no significant change in IGF-1, resting metabolic rate, heart rate, blood pressure or stomach symptoms. What turkesterone does over weeks has not been measured in people. The ideas about how ecdysteroids affect muscle come from cell and animal studies.
Can you feel turkesterone working?
Some people describe fuller pumps and better recovery in the first week or two, but no trial has tested those reports, and they aren’t a reliable measure. Your logged lifts and body measurements over several weeks are the honest test.
Do you need to cycle turkesterone?
There are no data either way, because no study has given turkesterone for longer than a day. Many people run 8 to 12 weeks on and about 4 weeks off as a cautious habit.
Does Eternal Elixir sell turkesterone?
Not at the moment. Our Turkesterone 500mg is sold out. Our in-stock pick for the same goal is Tongkat Ali 200:1 Extract 2000mg, which is a different herb with its own trials.
What is the best alternative to turkesterone in Australia?
For testosterone support alongside training, our pick is Eternal Elixir Tongkat Ali 200:1 Extract 2000mg: 2,000mg per three-capsule serve, 90 capsules a bottle and $1.33 a serve, sent from Sydney. Eternal Elixir makes it, so weigh that. If muscle gain is the main goal, creatine has far more human evidence than any ecdysteroid.

The bottom line
There is no measured timeline for turkesterone. The closest evidence, from ecdysterone, points to 10 weeks of training before any difference showed, and two other trials found none at all. If you take it, use a product with published testing for its active compound, take it daily with meals, and judge it on your training log after 8 to 10 weeks. We don’t have turkesterone in stock right now. For the testosterone side of the same goal, Tongkat Ali 200:1 is our in-stock pick, with placebo-controlled trials that measured changes from week 4.
