Choosing between the best liver support supplements in Australia means getting past the label theatre. A tablet that shouts “35,000mg” contains nothing like 35 grams of anything. That is a dry-herb equivalence figure. A “liver detox” complex with eleven ingredients often carries token doses of nine of them. And milk thistle, the ingredient with the largest randomised trial behind it, produced a null result in that trial. Almost no Australian roundup will tell you that.
We did the boring work. Every product in this comparison was priced per day in AUD at its own label dose. We checked what is stocked in Australia and what has to be flown in, then read the human trials rather than the marketing. Every liver support supplement below is one an Australian buyer can get hold of, with no phantom SKUs or US-only listings. Prices were checked in July 2026 and are RRPs unless noted. Discount chemists routinely sell below them.
Quick Answer
Eternal Elixir TUDCA 500mg is our top pick for liver support in Australia, with a full 500mg bile-acid dose in every capsule at $0.67 a day. The 90-capsule bottle contains 45,000mg of TUDCA, three times what a 250mg × 60-capsule bottle holds. Human clinical data backs the ingredient, rather than dry-herb equivalence numbers. For bile flow, antioxidant and metabolic support in one order, the Metabolic Wellness Stack (TUDCA, Berberine and Reduced L-Glutathione) ships free. For something off a pharmacy shelf today, go for Swisse Ultiboost Liver Detox.

The Best Liver Support Supplements in Australia: At a Glance
Every price below is converted to a cost per day at the dose printed on that product’s own label. That number decides what you actually spend over a year, and most comparison articles quietly leave it out.
| Rank | Product | Active dose | Price (AUD) | Price/day | AU shipping | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Eternal Elixir TUDCA 500mg | 500mg TUDCA × 90 capsules | $59.99 | $0.67 | Ships in Australia, free over $100 | Bile flow and fat digestion |
| 2 | Eternal Elixir Reduced L-Glutathione 2000mg | 2,000mg per serve (2 caps) × 45 serves | $39.99 | $0.89 | Ships in Australia, free over $100 | Antioxidant defence |
| 3 | Swisse Ultiboost Liver Detox | Milk thistle complex × 120 tabs | ~$45.99 RRP (often ~$34) | ~$0.57–0.77 | Same-day pharmacy pickup | Buying it today, locally |
| 4 | Nature’s Own High Strength Milk Thistle 35,000mg | Milk thistle equiv. × 60 tabs | ~$20 typical | ~$0.33 | Everywhere — supermarket to chemist | Lowest daily cost |
| 5 | Bioglan High Strength Milk Thistle 35,000mg + Choline | Milk thistle + choline × 60 tabs | ~$25 typical | ~$0.42 | Pharmacy shelf | One-a-day convenience |
| 6 | Herbs of Gold Liver Care | Multi-herb + nutrient × 60 tabs | ~$37 RRP (often ~$26) | ~$0.62–1.23 | Health-food stores, online | Multi-ingredient formula |
| 7 | NOW Foods NAC 600mg (via iHerb AU) | 600mg NAC × 100 caps | ~$27 + shipping | ~$0.27 | Imported, 5–14 days | Cysteine precursor route |
| 8 | Nutricost TUDCA 500mg (via iHerb AU) | 500mg TUDCA × 30 caps | ~$38 + shipping | ~$1.27 | Imported, 5–14 days | Backup if local stock is out |
Two things about the liver support supplements above stand out in that table. First, milk thistle is cheap: roughly a third of the daily cost of a bile-acid capsule. Second, importing the same molecule (TUDCA) instead of buying it locally almost doubles the daily cost and adds a fortnight of waiting. Our dedicated TUDCA comparison for Australian buyers breaks that second point down brand by brand. We have also checked whether Chemist Warehouse actually stocks TUDCA at all, because readers ask us constantly.
#1. Eternal Elixir TUDCA 500mg — Best Overall for Bile Flow

Eternal Elixir TUDCA 500mg, 90 capsules
500mg per capsule · 45,000mg per bottle · one capsule daily · three-month supply · dispatched in Australia
$59.99 AUD · $0.67 per daily serve · In stock
Eternal Elixir TUDCA 500mg tops this list because it is the only product here that combines a full research-grade single dose with Australian dispatch for under $0.70 a day. TUDCA (tauroursodeoxycholic acid) is a taurine-conjugated bile acid. It works on bile flow, the mechanism by which the liver clears what it processes, rather than acting like an antioxidant herb.
Key specs: 500mg TUDCA per capsule, 90 capsules per bottle, third-party tested with a Certificate of Analysis held for the batch, one capsule daily, $59.99 AUD.
Pros:
- Full 500mg in a single capsule. Most Australian TUDCA sells at 250mg, so you need two capsules to match it
- 90 capsules is a three-month supply. Imported bottles typically hold 30
- $0.67/day is the lowest cost per 500mg of TUDCA we could find available to Australian buyers
- Dispatched locally, with no customs wait and free shipping over $100
- Eternal Elixir batches are third-party tested for purity; we hold the COAs behind that claim
Cons:
- Not on any pharmacy shelf — online only
- Far fewer public reviews than Swisse or Nature’s Own, both of which have decades of shelf presence
- The best-known human TUDCA trial used 1,750mg a day, well above a single 500mg capsule. This cuts against us, and you should know it. See the research section below
Best for: sluggish fat digestion and people already stacking longevity compounds. Also suits anyone who wants a defined molecule rather than a proprietary blend.
Price: $59.99 AUD for 90 capsules. View TUDCA 500mg.
#2. Eternal Elixir Reduced L-Glutathione 2000mg — Best Antioxidant Support
Eternal Elixir Reduced L-Glutathione 2000mg covers the antioxidant side of liver support. TUDCA supports flow; glutathione is the liver’s primary internal antioxidant, consumed when the organ is working hard. At the label serving of two capsules, it costs $0.89 a day. That puts it just above TUDCA 500mg on daily cost.
Key specs: reduced (active) L-glutathione, 1,000mg per capsule, 90 capsules per bottle, label serving two capsules daily (2,000mg, 45 serves per bottle), $39.99 AUD, third-party tested.
Pros:
- Reduced L-glutathione, not oxidised. This is the form used in the oral supplementation trial cited below
- $0.89/day at the label’s two-capsule serving, with the full 2,000mg in one serve
- 90 capsules per bottle, Australian dispatch
- Pairs with TUDCA: different mechanisms, no overlap
Cons:
- Oral glutathione absorption remains debated. The trial evidence shows body stores rise, but liver-specific outcome data is thin
- No pharmacy availability
Best for: antioxidant support and skin brightness goals. Also for people who drink more than they would like to admit. If you are weighing brands, our roundup of glutathione supplements available in Australia compares the options. The glutathione dosage guide for Australian buyers covers how much to take and when.
Price: $39.99 AUD for 90 capsules. View Reduced L-Glutathione 2000mg.
#3. Swisse Ultiboost Liver Detox — Best Pharmacy Pickup
Swisse Ultiboost Liver Detox is the liver support supplement most Australians actually buy, and it earns its place. Every Chemist Warehouse, Priceline and Woolworths in the country stocks it. The RRP is around $45.99 for 120 tablets, but heavy discounting frequently brings that closer to $34. Swisse also has an enormous review base built over years.
Key specs: milk thistle-led complex with supporting herbs, 120 tablets, two tablets daily, ~$0.57–0.77 per day depending on where you buy it.
Pros:
- Swisse is everywhere. You can have it in your hand this afternoon
- Deep discounting means the real price is often 25% under RRP
- Largest reputation and review base of anything on this list
- Multi-ingredient formula covers several bases at once
Cons:
- Built on silymarin, whose largest randomised trial did not beat placebo on liver enzymes (detailed below)
- Two tablets a day, so the “120 tablet” bottle is a 60-day bottle
- Blend doses are modest relative to single-ingredient products
Best for: the buyer who wants a pharmacy option today at a known price. Swisse has that advantage. We’d rather say so than bury it.
#4. Nature’s Own High Strength Milk Thistle 35,000mg — Best Budget Buy
Nature’s Own High Strength Milk Thistle 35,000mg is the cheapest credible liver support supplement in Australia at roughly $0.33 a day, and it is stocked everywhere. The “35,000mg” on the front is dry-herb equivalence, not the weight of anything in the tablet. Every milk thistle product on the shelf uses equivalence labelling, so at least the comparison is fair.
Key specs: milk thistle (St Mary’s thistle) equivalent to 35g dry seed, 60 tablets, one tablet daily, ~$20.
Pros:
- Lowest cost per day in this comparison — about half of what a TUDCA capsule costs
- One tablet a day. A 60-tablet bottle lasts two months
- Available in supermarkets, not just chemists
Cons:
- Single-ingredient silymarin, with the trial caveat below
- Equivalence labelling makes the dose look bigger than it is
- No bile-acid or glutathione support at all
Best for: a low-commitment starting point, or anyone whose budget is the constraint. A $0.33 tablet you take daily beats a $0.67 capsule you abandon in a drawer.
#5. Bioglan High Strength Milk Thistle 35,000mg + Choline — Best One-a-Day Value
Bioglan High Strength Milk Thistle 35,000mg + Choline uses the same silymarin approach with added choline. Choline is involved in moving fat out of the liver, so the pairing makes mechanistic sense. At roughly $25 for 60 one-a-day tablets, it costs about $0.42 a day.
Key specs: milk thistle equivalent to 35g dry seed plus choline, 60 tablets, one daily, ~$25.
Pros:
- Choline adds a mechanistic advantage over plain milk thistle
- True one-a-day dosing
- Widely stocked and frequently on promotion
Cons:
- Still silymarin-led, so the same evidence caveat applies
- Choline dose is modest compared with dedicated choline products
- Costs ~25% more per day than Nature’s Own for a similar core ingredient
Best for: pharmacy buyers who want one tablet, not two, and a little more than plain thistle.
#6. Herbs of Gold Liver Care — Best Multi-Ingredient Formula
Herbs of Gold Liver Care is the practitioner-channel option: a multi-herb and nutrient formula built around St Mary’s thistle, with supporting ingredients aimed at bile and fat metabolism. RRP is near $37 for 60 tablets, commonly discounted to the mid-$20s. Dosing gets awkward. One tablet a day costs about $0.62. At the two-tablet dose, that climbs to $1.23, the most expensive daily cost in this comparison.
Key specs: multi-ingredient herbal and nutrient formula, 60 tablets, dose varies by label direction, ~$37 RRP.
Pros:
- Broadest ingredient coverage of the Australian retail options
- Practitioner-brand reputation and quality control
- Well reviewed by long-term users
Cons:
- The most expensive per day at the higher label dose
- Multi-ingredient means smaller doses of each component
- Harder to find than pharmacy brands — health-food stores and online mostly
Best for: people who prefer a formulated blend over single molecules and are not counting cents per day.
#7. NOW Foods NAC 600mg (via iHerb AU) — Best Cysteine Precursor Route
NOW Foods NAC 600mg supplies N-acetyl cysteine so the body can build glutathione, rather than supplying glutathione directly. Australians typically import it through iHerb at roughly $27 for 100 capsules. That works out to about $0.27 a day before shipping, the cheapest active on this list, with a 5–14 day wait.
Key specs: 600mg NAC per capsule, 100 capsules, one daily, ~$27 plus shipping, imported.
Pros:
- Cheapest active ingredient per day in this comparison
- Long-established, well-characterised compound
- 100-capsule bottles are excellent value
Cons:
- Import wait of one to two weeks; shipping cost erodes the price advantage on small orders
- Sulphurous taste and smell that some people cannot tolerate
- No local support if a NOW Foods batch or order goes wrong
Best for: the precursor-first crowd. If you are deciding between the three main mechanisms, our breakdown of how TUDCA, NAC and milk thistle differ mechanistically is the clearest way to choose.
#8. Nutricost TUDCA 500mg (via iHerb AU) — Best Overseas TUDCA Backup
Nutricost TUDCA 500mg is the same molecule and the same 500mg dose as our top pick. It comes in 30-capsule bottles for roughly $38 plus shipping: about $1.27 a day, nearly double the local option, with a fortnight’s wait. We include it because it is a legitimate product and a reasonable fallback. It isn’t a good deal for an Australian buyer.
Key specs: 500mg TUDCA per capsule, 30 capsules, one daily, ~$38 plus shipping, imported.
Pros:
- Full 500mg dose, same as the local leader
- Established international brand with wide distribution
- Useful backup when local stock runs out
Cons:
- $1.27/day, the most expensive way to buy TUDCA in this comparison
- 30-capsule bottle means reordering monthly
- Customs and shipping delays
Best for: a stopgap, or buyers already placing a large iHerb order for other items.

How We Evaluated Liver Support Supplements
We scored all eight liver support supplements on five weighted criteria and published the scores so you can argue with them. The comparison uses public specifications, published research and Australian retail prices. Our third-party testing claim covers only Eternal Elixir’s own batches, for which we hold Certificates of Analysis. We haven’t lab-tested competitor products and won’t imply we have.

| Nutricost TUDCA 500mg | 8.5 | 4.0 | 4.0 | 7.0 | 7.5 | 6.33 |
The top four scores are 8.08, 7.93, 7.88 and 7.80. These judgements aren’t precise enough to make much of that gap. Swisse and Nature’s Own are the right purchases for a large share of readers. What separates the top liver support supplement from the rest is evidence quality per dose, based entirely on what the trials found.
What the Research Actually Says About Liver Support Supplements
Give this section two minutes. The research changes the ranking.
Milk thistle’s biggest trial was a null result. In research published in JAMA, Michael W. Fried and the SyNCH study group randomised patients with chronic hepatitis C to silymarin at 420mg or 700mg three times daily, or placebo, for 24 weeks. Neither silymarin dose produced a significantly greater reduction in liver enzymes than placebo (Fried et al., JAMA 2012; PMID 22797645). Look at the doses: 1,260–2,100mg of standardised silymarin a day, far more than a “35,000mg equivalent” tablet delivers. That is the single most important fact on the Australian liver shelf. It’s why every milk thistle product here scores 6.0 on evidence rather than 8.
TUDCA has human data on liver metabolism. A clinical trial published in Diabetes gave 1,750mg of TUDCA daily for four weeks to obese participants and found improved hepatic and muscle insulin sensitivity, though not in adipose tissue (Kars et al., Diabetes 2010; PMID 20522594). As we noted in the product review, that dose means three and a half 500mg capsules a day. A single daily capsule is a maintenance-style intake, not a replication of the trial protocol. Anyone telling you a 500mg capsule reproduces that study is selling you something.
Oral glutathione does reach the body’s stores. In a six-month randomised trial published in the European Journal of Nutrition, John P. Richie Jr and colleagues found that oral glutathione supplementation increased body glutathione stores, with effects reversing after washout (Richie et al., Eur J Nutr 2015; PMID 24791752). The trial challenges the common claim that digestion destroys all swallowed glutathione. Liver-disease outcomes have not been established.
Preclinical research on bile acids and the gut–liver axis is growing. In mice with fatty liver disease, TUDCA reduced intestinal inflammation and barrier disruption (Wang et al., Br J Pharmacol 2018; PMID 29139555). Mice aren’t people, and we won’t dress this up as human evidence.
This is not medical advice. None of these products treats liver disease. If you have symptoms, abnormal blood results or a diagnosed condition, speak to your GP. Healthdirect Australia’s liver health overview is a sensible starting point. Supplements sit alongside the things that actually move liver markers: alcohol intake, body weight, sleep and movement.
Liver Support Supplements: Price Per Day in AUD
A year’s cost makes the price differences clearer. At label dose, twelve months of Nature’s Own milk thistle costs about $120; Eternal Elixir TUDCA 500mg, about $245. Imported Nutricost TUDCA costs about $464 before shipping. Swisse ranges from $208 to $281, depending on discounts.
Decide whether the mechanism is worth the price difference. If you want antioxidant and herbal cover at the lowest possible cost, the $120-a-year option is rational. Buy that one. If your interest is bile flow because heavy meals sit badly, fat digestion is a concern or you’re building a stack around cellular health, milk thistle is the wrong ingredient at any price. The $245 option is the one that matters.
Two adjacent notes. Metabolic health and liver fat are tightly linked, which is why many buyers pair liver support with a metabolic agent. Our comparison of berberine supplements for metabolic support in Australia covers that side, and Eternal Elixir Berberine HCl 500mg is the in-house option there. If you are wondering how quickly any of this shows up, how long glutathione takes to work sets realistic expectations. Think weeks, not days.
Who Should Buy What: Liver Support by Situation
- You want it today, from a shelf, cheap: Swisse Ultiboost Liver Detox or Nature’s Own Milk Thistle. No argument from us.
- Fat digestion and bile flow are the issue: Eternal Elixir TUDCA 500mg. Milk thistle does not do this job.
- You’re building a longevity stack: Eternal Elixir TUDCA plus Reduced L-Glutathione, $1.56 a day combined at both label servings, with no mechanistic overlap.
- You prefer precursors: NOW Foods NAC, if you can wait for the import.
- You want one tablet that does a bit of everything: Herbs of Gold Liver Care or Bioglan with choline.
- You have symptoms or abnormal liver bloods: see a doctor first. Add a supplement only if they agree.
If you’re unsure whether supplementation is warranted, the signs your liver may need support guide covers common markers before you spend anything. For the wider brand comparison, including Swisse and Herbs of Gold, see our ranking of Australian supplement brands.
Liver Support and Fatty Liver: What Australian Buyers Should Know
“Best liver supplements for fatty liver” is one of the most common searches that lands on a page like this, so it is worth being direct about what a supplement can and cannot do here.
Fatty liver is a clinical condition that a doctor diagnoses and monitors, usually through blood tests and imaging. Don’t self-diagnose it from symptoms. A capsule doesn’t treat it. The strongest evidence supports the unglamorous work: weight management, reducing alcohol, moving more and addressing blood sugar. If you suspect fatty liver, speak to your GP before buying anything.
Supplements, if they have a place, sit alongside that care. If your doctor agrees to an addition, use the same buying criteria as elsewhere in this guide: a disclosed dose you can verify on the label, a form used in research, third-party testing and Australian dispatch so you aren’t waiting three weeks for a re-order. On those criteria, TUDCA 500mg and Reduced L-Glutathione 2000mg are the two products on this page with the clearest dosing rationale. That’s why they rank #1 and #2 above.
Be sceptical of products marketed as fatty liver treatments. The claim goes beyond the evidence. In Australia, milk thistle products dominate the shelf, yet their largest trial did not beat placebo, as covered in the research section above. Buy on dose and form. Keep expectations proportionate and let your GP track the actual markers.

What is the best liver support supplement in Australia?
Eternal Elixir TUDCA 500mg ranks first (8.08) on our five-factor weighted score for its full 500mg bile-acid dose, local Australian dispatch and $0.67 daily cost. Swisse Ultiboost Liver Detox ranks third (7.88). It’s the better choice if pharmacy availability and same-day pickup matter more to you than dose per capsule.
Does milk thistle actually work for the liver?
Milk thistle’s evidence is weaker than its marketing suggests. The largest randomised trial of silymarin, published in JAMA in 2012, found no significant improvement in liver enzymes over placebo at doses far higher than a typical Australian tablet delivers. Milk thistle is inexpensive and well tolerated, but studies do not support treating it as a potent liver agent.
How much does liver support cost per day in Australia?
At label dose: roughly $0.33/day for Nature’s Own milk thistle, $0.42 for Bioglan with choline, $0.89 for Eternal Elixir Reduced L-Glutathione (label serving is two capsules), $0.57–0.77 for Swisse, $0.67 for Eternal Elixir TUDCA 500mg, and about $1.27 for imported Nutricost TUDCA. Prices re-checked against live product pages on 19 August 2026.
Where can I buy TUDCA in Australia?
TUDCA is not a pharmacy staple in Australia. Eternal Elixir ships TUDCA 500mg domestically in bottles of 90 capsules. Specialist sports retailers stock 250mg-per-capsule versions, while iHerb imports arrive in 5–14 days at roughly double the daily cost.
Can you take TUDCA and glutathione together?
They work through different mechanisms, TUDCA on bile flow and glutathione as an antioxidant, so there is no ingredient overlap. Many Australian buyers run both. Start one at a time so you can attribute any effect, and speak to your GP if you take prescription medicines.
Is NAC or glutathione better for liver support?
NAC is a precursor your body converts into glutathione; supplemental glutathione supplies the molecule directly. The 2015 European Journal of Nutrition trial found that oral glutathione raised body stores over six months. NAC costs less per day but must be imported into Australia. Glutathione is available locally.
What dose of TUDCA do the studies use?
The 2010 Diabetes trial used 1,750mg daily for four weeks, substantially more than the 500mg in a single capsule. Consumer doses of 250–500mg daily are maintenance-level intakes, not replications of the trial protocol. Be sceptical of brands implying otherwise.
Do liver supplements detox your liver?
No supplement “detoxes” a liver. A healthy liver already does that continuously. Supplements may support the machinery involved: bile flow, antioxidant capacity and fat metabolism. Alcohol reduction, weight management and exercise move liver markers far more than any capsule.
What are the best liver supplements for fatty liver in Australia?
No supplement treats fatty liver. A product that promises to do so is overselling itself. A doctor diagnoses and monitors the condition; weight management, alcohol reduction, activity and blood sugar control are the changes that move the markers. If your GP agrees to a supplement alongside that care, look for a verifiable label dose, a form used in research, third-party testing and Australian dispatch. Speak with your GP or pharmacist first, particularly if you take prescription medication.
Verdict: The Australian Liver Support Recommendations
Here are the picks from the eight liver support supplements compared.
Best overall: Eternal Elixir TUDCA 500mg, with 500mg per capsule, 90 capsules per bottle and dispatch from Australia. TUDCA works through bile flow and has human evidence behind it. At $0.67/day, it costs half as much as the imported equivalent.
Best value: Nature’s Own High Strength Milk Thistle. The evidence is weak, but at ~$0.33/day, the price is low too. Nature’s Own is on every shelf in the country.
Best pharmacy pickup: Buy Swisse Ultiboost Liver Detox if you want it in your hand this afternoon.
Best stack: Eternal Elixir TUDCA 500mg plus Reduced L-Glutathione 2000mg. At $1.56/day for both label servings, you get two mechanisms with no overlap. Both are third-party tested. Both ship from Australia in 90-capsule bottles.
For the liver support buyer who cares about mechanism, Eternal Elixir offers a defined dose of a researched molecule: 500mg in every capsule, 90 capsules to the bottle, tested to a Certificate of Analysis and shipped without a customs queue. We think that trade is worth making. It won’t beat a supermarket milk thistle on price or shelf availability, and we have said so throughout.
