Quick answer: Tru Niagen is a genuine, well-studied nicotinamide riboside (NR) supplement, and its ingredient, Niagen, is the form of NR used in most of the human trials we cite below. It is also expensive. On the brand’s Australian site one bottle of 30 capsules at 300mg costs $75, or $2.50 a day, and when we searched Chemist Warehouse in September 2026 it did not sell Tru Niagen at all. Our pick is Eternal Elixir Pure NR 500mg: 500mg of NR in each capsule, 90 capsules for $59.99, which is $0.67 a day, sent from Sydney within 24 hours.
Eternal Elixir makes Pure NR 500mg, and it is our pick here, so weigh our view with that in mind. Our NR is not Niagen, and we have not run trials on our own product. Every Tru Niagen price and label detail below was read from the brand’s Australian site or the linked retailer in September 2026, and the studies are listed in full at the end. We have not lab-tested any of these products.

Tru Niagen review Australia: what you are actually buying
Tru Niagen is made around Niagen, a crystalline form of nicotinamide riboside chloride owned by the American ingredient company ChromaDex. Nicotinamide riboside is a form of vitamin B3. Your cells convert it into nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, or NAD+, a coenzyme used in energy metabolism in every cell, and blood NAD+ is the main thing the human trials have measured.
The Australian storefront sells Tru Niagen 300mg, a Tru Niagen 150mg version, Immune and Beauty variants, and bundles of these. This review covers the 300mg capsule, the one most people mean when they search for Tru Niagen. Each capsule holds 300mg of nicotinamide riboside chloride with microcrystalline cellulose and magnesium stearate in a vegetarian hypromellose shell. The directions say one capsule a day for adults.
Niagen is a branded, patented form of NR, not a different molecule. Any NR supplement delivers nicotinamide riboside. What differs between products is the salt form, the supplier, the amount per capsule and the testing behind each batch. Tru Niagen’s own page argues that many unbranded NR products are impure. That is a fair question to put to any brand, including us: ask for the certificate of analysis for your batch. If NR itself is new to you, our explainer on what nicotinamide riboside does in the body covers the basics, and our best NAD+ supplements in Australia comparison sets Tru Niagen against the wider field.
What the human trials on nicotinamide riboside show
This is where Tru Niagen earns real credit. Three of the four trials below used Niagen supplied by ChromaDex, the same ingredient that is in Tru Niagen. They answer two separate questions: does NR raise NAD+, and does raising NAD+ change anything you would notice?
- 140 healthy overweight adults, 8 weeks. Placebo or Niagen at 100mg, 300mg or 1,000mg a day, 35 people per group. Whole-blood NAD+ rose by about 22%, 51% and 142% respectively within two weeks and stayed up for the rest of the study. There was no flushing and no significant difference in adverse events between NR and placebo. Two authors were ChromaDex employees, the third holds intellectual property licensed to ChromaDex, and ChromaDex funded the study (Conze et al., Scientific Reports, 2019).
- 30 healthy middle-aged and older adults, 6 weeks on each treatment. A crossover trial of 500mg of Niagen twice a day (1,000mg a day) against placebo, with 24 people completing both phases. NAD+ in peripheral blood mononuclear cells, a type of white blood cell, was about 60% higher with NR than with placebo. Blood pressure and arterial stiffness were exploratory measures, and the authors called only for larger trials to test them (Martens et al., Nature Communications, 2018).
- 12 older men, 21 days on each treatment. 1g of Niagen a day against placebo in a crossover design. NR raised NAD+-related metabolites in muscle and lowered some circulating inflammatory markers, but it did not change how well the muscle’s mitochondria produced energy (Elhassan et al., Cell Reports, 2019).
- 40 sedentary men aged 40 to 70 with a BMI over 30, 12 weeks. 1,000mg of NR twice a day (2,000mg a day) or placebo. NR did not improve insulin sensitivity, glucose metabolism, resting energy expenditure or body composition. There were no serious adverse events and safety blood tests were normal (Dollerup et al., American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2018).
Earlier work established that NR taken by mouth reaches the blood in people, with single doses of 100mg, 300mg and 1,000mg producing dose-dependent rises in blood NAD+ metabolites (Trammell et al., Nature Communications, 2016).
The fair reading: NR reliably raises NAD+ markers in human blood, and it has been well tolerated at up to 2,000mg a day for 12 weeks. What hasn’t been shown is a clear change in how people feel or perform. The trials that looked for effects on muscle energy, insulin sensitivity or body composition mostly found none, and the blood-pressure findings are early. Our longevity supplement evidence index puts NR in context against the rest of the category.
How our serve compares with the trials: one Eternal Elixir capsule gives 500mg of NR. That is more than Tru Niagen’s 300mg and the 100mg and 300mg arms of the Conze trial, and below its 1,000mg arm, where blood NAD+ rose most. It is half the 1,000mg a day used by Martens and Elhassan, and a quarter of the 2,000mg a day that Dollerup tested for safety. Our guide to nicotinamide riboside dosage and timing goes through the amounts in more detail.

What Tru Niagen costs in Australia: the per-serve maths
Overseas reviews quote American prices, which don’t help an Australian buyer. Below is every NR option we could price for Australia, converted to the cost of one daily serve and to the cost per 100mg of NR, because the products use different amounts per capsule. Prices are as of Sep 2026.
| Product | NR per capsule (label) | Capsules | Label serve | Price (AUD, as of Sep 2026) | Cost per daily serve | Cost per 100mg NR | Buy |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Eternal Elixir Pure NR 500mg (our pick) | 500mg | 90 | 1 capsule | $59.99 | $0.67 | $0.13 | Eternal Elixir, ships from Sydney |
| Tru Niagen 300mg, one bottle (brand site) | 300mg (NR chloride) | 30 | 1 capsule | $75.00 | $2.50 | $0.83 | Tru Niagen |
| Tru Niagen 300mg, six bottles on subscription (brand site) | 300mg (NR chloride) | 180 | 1 capsule | $335.00 | $1.86 | $0.62 | Tru Niagen |
| Tru Niagen 300mg (Pharmacy Online) | 300mg (NR chloride) | 30 | 1 capsule | $61.95 | $2.07 | $0.69 | Pharmacy Online |
| Melrose FutureLab NAD+ Booster | 300mg (NR chloride), plus 150mg DMG | 30 | 1 capsule | $45.32 (RRP $64.75) | $1.51 | $0.50 | Chemist Warehouse |
| BioHack Wanderlust NAD+ Boost | 150mg (NR chloride) | 30 | Not shown on the listing | $33.49 (RRP $66.99) | $1.12 per capsule | $0.74 | Chemist Warehouse |
Our price is from our live product page. Other prices were read from the linked pages in September 2026 and change often. Tru Niagen, Melrose FutureLab and BioHack state their amount as nicotinamide riboside chloride, and our label states nicotinamide riboside, so the table compares label amounts.

Read the last column twice. On one bottle, Tru Niagen costs $0.83 per 100mg of NR against $0.13 for ours, more than six times as much. Even on the brand’s best deal, a six-bottle subscription at $335, it is $0.62 per 100mg. The gap isn’t explained by dose, because our capsule holds more NR (500mg against 300mg). It comes from the patented ingredient, the brand and the bottle size.
Bottle size matters for a daily supplement. A 30-capsule bottle lasts a month, so a year of Tru Niagen means twelve orders unless you buy in bulk. A 90-capsule bottle of ours lasts three months. With multi-bottle pricing the gap widens again: two bottles save 10% ($107.98, which also ships free), three save 15% and five save 20%, which brings ours to $239.96 for 450 capsules, or $0.11 per 100mg of NR.
None of this makes Tru Niagen a bad product. You are paying a large premium for a patented form of a molecule that other brands sell at a higher strength. Whether that premium is worth it comes down to how much you value the exact ingredient used in the trials. Our roundup of the best NR supplements sold in Australia covers more options.
Is Tru Niagen sold at Chemist Warehouse?
Not when we checked. A search for “tru niagen” on the Chemist Warehouse website in September 2026 returned no results. The same site search for nicotinamide riboside returned nine products, including Melrose FutureLab NAD+ Booster and BioHack Wanderlust NAD+ Boost, both in the table above.
Tru Niagen is sold through its own Australian site, which offers free shipping to Australia and New Zealand on orders over $100, and through online pharmacies. Pharmacy Online had the 30-capsule bottle at $61.95 when we checked, less than the brand’s own one-bottle price. Store stock changes, so check before you make a trip. The same question comes up for other NAD+ brands, and our guides to AgeMate at Chemist Warehouse and NMN at Chemist Warehouse cover those.
Tru Niagen reviews: what buyers say
Public sentiment is split, and neither side proves much. The brand’s Australian product page shows 368 reviews. The Trustpilot page for truniagen.com showed a TrustScore of 2.4 out of 5 from 16 reviews when we checked in September 2026.
Both figures have limits. Reviews on a brand’s own page are collected by the seller, and 16 reviews on Trustpilot is a small sample that tends to draw people with a complaint. If you expect to feel a difference, set that against the science: the trials measured a rise in blood NAD+, not a change people could feel. The trials above are a better guide than either review score.
Tru Niagen side effects
The trials report few problems. In the Martens trial, 7 of the 30 people enrolled reported 14 adverse events, all mild. Symptoms during the NR phase included nausea, flushing, leg cramps and increased bruising, while people on placebo reported headache, skin rash, flushing, fainting and drowsiness. In the Conze trial there was no flushing and no significant difference in adverse events between NR and placebo at up to 1,000mg a day. Dollerup found no serious adverse events at 2,000mg a day for 12 weeks.
No trial has run for years, so long-term data are limited. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or take prescription medicines, talk to your doctor before taking any NAD+ precursor.
Tru Niagen vs Eternal Elixir Pure NR 500mg
Eternal Elixir Pure NR 500mg holds 500mg of nicotinamide riboside in each cellulose capsule, with rice flour as the only other ingredient. The label says one capsule a day, preferably in the morning, and each bottle holds 90.
- More NR per capsule. 500mg against Tru Niagen’s 300mg, in one capsule a day.
- Three months per bottle. 90 capsules against Tru Niagen’s 30.
- $0.67 a day on one bottle, against $2.50 for Tru Niagen on one bottle and $1.86 on its best subscription.
- Sent from Sydney within 24 hours, with a 30-day money-back guarantee, Afterpay, and free shipping on orders over $100.
- Batch certificates on request. Our product page says every batch is third-party lab tested for purity and potency, and we will send the current certificate of analysis if you ask.
Who it suits: adults who want to take NR every day for months at a sensible cost, and who are happy with nicotinamide riboside from a supplier other than ChromaDex.
Who it doesn’t suit: anyone who specifically wants Niagen, the exact ingredient used in the trials above. For that, Tru Niagen is the product to buy, and Pharmacy Online had the lowest price we found.
Who should buy Tru Niagen: people who value the patented, trial-tested ingredient more than the cost per serve, and who don’t mind reordering monthly or buying six bottles at once.
Tru Niagen vs NMN, and AgeMate alternatives
NR and NMN are different molecules that both feed the body’s NAD+ supply. No trial has compared them head to head, so claims that one is clearly better go beyond the evidence. Our comparison of NMN and NR walks through what each has and hasn’t shown in people. If you lean towards NMN, Eternal Elixir NMN 500mg costs the same as our NR, $59.99 for 90 capsules of 500mg, and many people take it with trans-resveratrol.
AgeMate is the other NAD+ brand Australians compare with Tru Niagen, and it sells NMN rather than NR. Its Daily Longevity Blend is a drink powder with 500mg of NMN per scoop plus other ingredients, at $79 a month on subscription or $99 bought once for 30 serves. If you are after an AgeMate alternative in Australia, our AgeMate alternatives compared on NMN and our look at AgeMate reviews cover it in depth.
Tru Niagen: frequently asked questions
Does Tru Niagen really work?
For the thing the trials measured, yes. Niagen raised whole-blood NAD+ by about 51% at the 300mg dose in Tru Niagen, within two weeks, in an 8-week trial of 140 adults. Whether that changes how you feel is less clear: trials looking at muscle energy, insulin sensitivity and body composition mostly found no change.
What are the side effects of taking Tru Niagen?
Side effects in trials were uncommon and mild. In one trial of 30 adults, symptoms reported during the NR phase included nausea, flushing, leg cramps and increased bruising, and another trial found no difference in adverse events from placebo at up to 1,000mg a day. Talk to your doctor first if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or take prescription medicines.
What does Niagen do for your body?
Niagen is a form of nicotinamide riboside, a type of vitamin B3. The body converts it into NAD+, a coenzyme used in energy metabolism in every cell, and trials show it raises NAD+ levels in blood. The trials above did not show a change in how energetic people feel.
What is the best NAD+ supplement in Australia?
Our pick is Eternal Elixir Pure NR 500mg: 500mg of NR per capsule, 90 capsules for $59.99, or $0.67 a day, sent from Sydney. If you want Niagen specifically, Tru Niagen is ChromaDex’s own product, at $2.07 a day from Pharmacy Online. Our NAD+ supplement comparison covers NMN options too.

Is Tru Niagen sold at Chemist Warehouse in Australia?
Not when we searched in September 2026: the Chemist Warehouse site returned no results for Tru Niagen. It does sell other NR products, such as Melrose FutureLab NAD+ Booster at $45.32. Tru Niagen itself is sold on the brand’s Australian site and through online pharmacies such as Pharmacy Online.
How long does Tru Niagen take to work?
In the largest trial, blood NAD+ rose within two weeks and stayed higher for as long as people kept taking NR. The rise depends on continued daily use. Any change you might notice is less predictable, and many people notice nothing.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Tru Niagen in Australia?
Yes. Eternal Elixir Pure NR 500mg costs $0.13 per 100mg of NR against $0.83 for Tru Niagen on one bottle, with more NR per capsule and 90 capsules per bottle. It is not Niagen, so choose Tru Niagen if the patented form matters to you.

Tru Niagen review Australia: the verdict
Our pick: Eternal Elixir Pure NR 500mg. You get 500mg of nicotinamide riboside in one capsule for $0.67 a day, 90 capsules to a bottle, shipped from Sydney within 24 hours.
Tru Niagen is a well-made product built on the NR ingredient used in most of the trials above. At $2.50 a day on one bottle, or $2.07 from Pharmacy Online, it costs three to four times as much per day as ours for less NR per capsule. Buy it if the Niagen name is what you want. Otherwise, compare the cost per 100mg of NR and choose the bottle you will keep taking.
