Memory Supplements Australia 2026: Methylene Blue + 6 More

Best memory supplements Australia: capsules, ginkgo and bacopa leaves beside a notebook

Last updated: October 12, 2026 · By Eternal Elixir Editorial

Last updated: October 12, 2026 · By Eternal Elixir Editorial · 7 products compared

$1.00 a day. That is the cheapest daily cost we found among seven memory supplements sold in Australia, and the most expensive came to $2.73. We priced each one in AUD on October 12, 2026, worked out what a day at the label dose costs, and then checked what the human trials behind each ingredient measured. The list covers methylene blue, magnesium L-threonate, bacopa and ginkgo, the four ingredients you will meet most often on Australian memory and focus shelves.

A plain disclosure before the numbers. Eternal Elixir makes Methylene Blue Capsules 10mg USP and Magnesium L-Threonate 2000mg; they are our picks, and every figure for the other products is taken from their own labels, the Herbs of Gold website and Chemist Warehouse product pages on the day we checked them. For the wider category of brain supplements, including saffron, ginseng and NMN, our nootropic supplements comparison for Australia is the hub this page sits under.

Quick Answer

Eternal Elixir Methylene Blue Capsules 10mg USP is our top pick among memory supplements in Australia: one capsule a day at $1.00, the lowest daily cost in this comparison, and a placebo-controlled trial linked a low dose to 7% more correct answers in a memory task. For memory and sleep together, Eternal Elixir Magnesium L-Threonate 2000mg matches the 2 g daily dose used in a 2025 Perth trial.

Based on label doses, published human research and live AUD prices across 7 products available in Australia

Key numbers:

  • Cost per label day across the seven products: $1.00 to $2.73 AUD.
  • Methylene blue: 26 adults, single low dose, 7% more correct responses during memory retrieval versus placebo (Rodriguez, Radiology, 2016).
  • Magnesium L-threonate: 100 adults in a Perth trial, 2 g a day for 6 weeks, better overall cognition scores than placebo, with the larger effects on working and episodic memory (Lopresti and Smith, Frontiers in Nutrition).
  • Bacopa: 9 trials and 518 people, 12 weeks or longer, faster attention scores (Kongkeaw, Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2014).
  • Ginkgo in healthy adults: 13 memory trials, an effect close to zero (Laws, Human Psychopharmacology, 2012).

Memory supplements compared: cost per day in AUD

Prices are the shelf price on the date above. Price per day divides the pack price by the number of days the label dose lasts, so a tablet taken three times a day is costed on three tablets. The 30-day figure is what a month at the label dose costs.

What it costs to reach the point where each trial measured results

Most memory supplement pages tell you an ingredient “was studied”. Few tell you how long people took it before anything was measured, or what that run costs at Australian prices. The table below does both. It uses the trial length from each study abstract and the bottle prices above, and it counts whole bottles, because that is what you pay for.

Ingredient (product)When the trial measured resultsBottles needed to get thereCost in AUD
Methylene blue (Eternal Elixir 10mg)1 hour after a single dose1 bottle covers it, plus 59 more days$59.99
Magnesium L-threonate (Eternal Elixir 2000mg)6 weeks (Perth trial); 30 days (Nanjing trial of a formula)2 bottles for 6 weeks$119.98
Bacopa (Herbs of Gold Super Brahmi 6000)12 weeks or longer3 bottles$190.50
Bacopa blend (Herbs of Gold Memory & Cognition Gold)12 weeks or longer, for the bacopa2 bottles$133.90

Ginkgo alone (Blackmores Ginkgoforte or Ginkgo 6000mg)No benefit found for memory in healthy adultsn/an/a

Two things stand out. Bacopa is a slow ingredient, so a fair trial of it is a three-month commitment of $130 to $190. And the cheapest daily product here, methylene blue, is also the only one whose human memory result was measured within hours, although that trial tested one dose rather than months of use.

#1. Eternal Elixir Methylene Blue Capsules 10mg USP: Best overall for memory and focus

Key specs: 10 mg USP-grade methylene blue per capsule · 1 capsule daily, per the label · 60 capsules per bottle (60 days) · $59.99 (down from $69.99) · $1.00 per day.

Methylene blue is a dye with more than a century of medical use. Researchers became interested in it for memory because, at low doses, it can pass electrons along the mitochondrial chain that brain cells rely on for energy. That mechanism is why it turns up in conversations about focus and mental stamina, and it is why we rank it first among memory supplements here.

The human evidence is small but direct. In a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Rodriguez, Duong and colleagues scanned 26 adults aged 22 to 62 before and one hour after a low oral dose. Methylene blue increased brain activity during a sustained-attention task and a short-term memory task, and it was associated with a 7% increase in correct responses during memory retrieval. A follow-up analysis by the same group found stronger resting connections between brain regions linking perception and memory.

Keep the limits in view. That was one dose, measured an hour later, in a scanner. Studies suggest methylene blue may support memory and focus, yet nobody has run a months-long memory trial of a daily 10 mg capsule. We still put it at #1 because it is the cheapest product in this comparison per day, it is one small capsule, and its trial measured a memory outcome in people rather than a proxy in mice.

Safety matters more with this ingredient than with any other here. Methylene blue must not be combined with antidepressants that act on serotonin, because the pair can cause serotonin syndrome. Read our methylene blue and serotonin safety guide and speak with your GP before you start if you take any regular medicine. It also tints urine blue-green, which is harmless and expected. If you are comparing pharmacy stock, our check of whether Chemist Warehouse sells methylene blue covers what is and is not on Australian shelves.

Pros:

  • $1.00 a day, the lowest daily cost of the seven products
  • One 10 mg capsule, so the dose is simple to keep consistent
  • A placebo-controlled human trial measured memory retrieval directly
  • Third-party lab tested every batch, with the COA sent on request

Cons:

  • The memory trial used a single dose, so long-term memory results are unknown
  • Not for anyone taking serotonergic antidepressants
  • Turns urine blue-green, which surprises first-time users

Best for: adults who want a low-cost daily option for focus and recall, who take no serotonergic medicines, and who prefer one capsule over a handful of tablets. Order the Eternal Elixir Methylene Blue Capsules for $59.99; if you prefer to adjust the dose in drops, the Methylene Blue Liquid 1% USP is $49.99. Many people take it with their morning coffee, which our methylene blue and coffee guide covers.

#2. Eternal Elixir Magnesium L-Threonate 2000mg: Best for memory and sleep together

Key specs: 2,000 mg magnesium L-threonate per serve (about 144 mg elemental magnesium) · 3 capsules daily with a meal · 90 capsules per bottle (30 days) · $59.99 · $2.00 per day.

Magnesium L-threonate, often sold as Magtein, is a form of magnesium that researchers showed in 2010 could raise magnesium levels in the brain and its neurons. It is the only ingredient in this comparison with a recent Australian trial behind it.

That trial was run in Perth by Lopresti and Smith at Clinical Research Australia. One hundred adults aged 18 to 45 who were unhappy with their sleep took 2 g of Magtein or a placebo every day for six weeks. The magnesium group improved more on the overall cognition score of the NIH Cognitive Toolbox, with larger effects on working memory and episodic memory, and their reaction times improved more. Results on a reasoning test did not differ, and the funder supplied the product and helped design the study, which you should know.

A second trial, from Nanjing Medical University, gave 109 healthy adults aged 18 to 65 a formula built on magnesium L-threonate with phosphatidylserine and vitamins C and D, at 2 g a day. After 30 days the supplement group beat placebo on all five parts of a standard memory test, and older participants improved most. Because that product was a blend, it supports the combination rather than magnesium alone.

The Eternal Elixir serve is 2,000 mg, the same daily amount both trials used. That dose match is the main reason it sits at #2. It costs twice as much per day as methylene blue, so it ranks below it on value, and it suits people whose memory complaints come with poor sleep. Take two capsules in the morning and one in the evening for focus, or all three at night for sleep, as the label suggests. Our magnesium L-threonate dosage guide explains the timing in more detail, and magnesium for brain health explains why the form matters.

Pros:

  • Daily serve matches the 2 g dose used in two human memory trials
  • Australian trial evidence, including working and episodic memory
  • Also suits a sleep routine, which supports memory in its own right
  • Third-party lab tested every batch

Cons:

  • Three capsules a day, so a bottle lasts one month
  • $2.00 a day, double the cost of our #1
  • The Perth trial’s funder supplied the product and helped design it

Best for: people whose focus slips after poor sleep, and anyone who wants the ingredient with the most recent human memory data. Buy Eternal Elixir Magnesium L-Threonate 2000mg for $59.99, or add it to methylene blue for a two-product routine that ships free over $100.

#3. Herbs of Gold Memory & Cognition Gold: Best one-a-day herbal blend

Key specs: per tablet, BacoMind bacopa extract 225 mg (from 4.5 g dry herb), ginkgo leaf extract 60 mg, rosemary leaf extract 100 mg and phosphatidylserine-enriched soy lecithin 100 mg · 1 tablet daily with food · 60 tablets · $66.95 on the Herbs of Gold website · $1.12 per day.

Herbs of Gold is an Australian herbal brand, and this is its multi-ingredient memory formula. Four ingredients in one tablet make it convenient, and at $1.12 a day it is the second-cheapest product per day in our list, just behind methylene blue.

The bacopa in it is the part with the most research. A 2014 meta-analysis by Kongkeaw and colleagues at Naresuan University in Thailand pooled nine randomised trials of standardised bacopa extracts taken for at least 12 weeks, covering 518 people. Bacopa shortened completion time on the Trail B test and reduced choice reaction time, which the authors read as faster attention. Ginkgo is less convincing for healthy adults, as the #6 and #7 entries explain.

The trade-off is dose. One tablet gives 225 mg of bacopa extract, less than the 600 mg in two Super Brahmi tablets, so you are buying breadth over strength. The tablet also contains soy, which matters if you avoid it.

Pros:

  • Four ingredients in one daily tablet
  • $1.12 a day, second-lowest daily cost in this list
  • Widely stocked by Australian health food stores and pharmacies

Cons:

  • Lower bacopa dose per day than a single-ingredient bacopa product
  • Contains soy lecithin
  • Bacopa needs about 12 weeks before trials measured a change

Best for: people who want one herbal tablet a day and are happy to give it three months. Price checked on herbsofgold.com.au; health food stores may charge less on promotion.

#4. Herbs of Gold Super Brahmi 6000: Best single-ingredient bacopa

Key specs: 300 mg BacoMind bacopa extract per tablet (from 6 g dry herb, 135 mg bacosides) · 2 tablets daily with food · 60 tablets (30 days) · $63.50 · $2.12 per day.

Bacopa monnieri, also called brahmi, is a creeping herb with a long history in Ayurvedic practice. It is the ingredient with the deepest set of placebo-controlled trials among the competitor products here, and Super Brahmi 6000 gives the highest bacopa dose of the group at 600 mg of extract a day.

The Kongkeaw meta-analysis is the honest summary of what to expect. Across nine trials that ran for at least 12 weeks, bacopa improved speed on attention tasks by small but measurable margins. The authors also said a larger head-to-head trial would be needed before firm conclusions. That is a reasonable evidence base for a herbal product, and it is why this ranks in the top four.

The weakness is cost and patience. At $2.12 a day it is dearer than both blends below it, and three months of use costs $190.50 at the listed price. Some people also notice stomach upset with bacopa, so taking it with food, as the label says, helps.

Pros:

  • Highest bacopa dose in the list at 600 mg extract a day
  • Standardised to bacosides, the compounds trials track
  • Single ingredient, so you know what you are testing

Cons:

  • $2.12 a day, among the dearer options
  • Results in trials appeared after 12 weeks or more
  • Bacopa can cause stomach upset in some people

Best for: a patient three-month trial of bacopa on its own. Buy it from Herbs of Gold stockists or the brand’s own website.

#5. Blackmores Ginkgo Brahmi: Lowest pack price for a ginkgo and bacopa combination

Key specs: per tablet, ginkgo extract 60 mg (from 3 g dry leaf) and bacopa extract 150 mg (from 3 g dry herb) · 1 tablet twice a day with food · 40 tablets (20 days) · $25.99 at Chemist Warehouse (RRP $33.99) · $1.30 per day.

Blackmores, which describes itself as Australia’s leading natural health company, sells Ginkgo Brahmi through most Australian pharmacies. At $25.99 it has the lowest pack price in this comparison, which makes it an easy place to start.

The catch is the small pack. Forty tablets at two a day last 20 days, so a month costs $38.99 and a 12-week bacopa trial needs five packs. Each day you get 300 mg of bacopa extract, half the Super Brahmi dose, plus 120 mg of ginkgo extract. The bacopa half carries the evidence. The ginkgo half, as below, has little support for memory in healthy adults.

Pros:

  • $25.99 pack price, the lowest upfront cost here
  • Easy to buy in-store at Chemist Warehouse
  • Combines the two most familiar memory herbs

Cons:

  • 20-day packs, so a month costs $38.99
  • Half the bacopa of a dedicated bacopa product
  • Ginkgo adds cost without clear memory benefit in healthy adults

Best for: a low-cost pharmacy trial of bacopa, bought in-store today.

#6. Blackmores Ginkgoforte: Lowest daily cost for a ginkgo-only tablet

Key specs: ginkgo extract 40 mg per tablet (from 2 g dry leaf) · 1 tablet three times a day with food · 80 tablets (about 27 days) · $30.99 at Chemist Warehouse (RRP $40.99) · $1.16 per day.

Ginkgo biloba extract is one of the oldest memory supplements on Australian shelves. Ginkgoforte delivers 120 mg of extract a day at $1.16, which makes it the cheaper of the two ginkgo-only products.

The research is the problem. In 2012, Laws and colleagues at the University of Hertfordshire pooled randomised trials of ginkgo in healthy people, including 13 trials with memory data from 1,132 participants. The effect on memory was close to zero, and the same held for attention and executive function. Their results did not change with age, dose or trial length. If your goal is sharper memory and you are healthy, that finding is hard to argue around.

Pros:

  • $1.16 a day, cheaper than the EGb 761 ginkgo product
  • Widely available in Australian pharmacies

Cons:

  • Three tablets a day
  • A meta-analysis found no memory benefit in healthy adults
  • Contains soy

Best for: people who already like ginkgo and want it at a lower daily cost.

#7. Blackmores Ginkgo 6000mg: Best for a standardised EGb 761 extract

Key specs: Tebonin EGb 761 ginkgo extract 120 mg per tablet (from 6 g dry leaf) · 1 tablet twice a day with food · 30 tablets (15 days) · $40.99 at Chemist Warehouse (RRP $48.99) · $2.73 per day.

This is the premium ginkgo option. It uses EGb 761, a named, standardised extract, at 240 mg a day, which is double the extract dose of Ginkgoforte. The tablet contains lactose.

A higher dose of a well-defined extract does not fix the evidence gap described above, because the Laws meta-analysis found no relationship between daily dose and effect. At $2.73 a day and $81.98 a month, it is the most expensive product in our comparison, so it sits last.

Pros:

  • Standardised EGb 761 extract with a clear label
  • Twice-daily dosing

Cons:

  • $2.73 a day, the highest daily cost here
  • 15-day packs
  • No memory benefit found for ginkgo in healthy adults

Best for: people who specifically want the EGb 761 extract and accept the cost.

How We Evaluated these memory supplements

We weighted five criteria. The order above is our editorial ranking, and Eternal Elixir products lead it because of the strengths shown in the table, not because the list is independent.

  • Quality and purity (30%): a clearly labelled, standardised dose, and batch testing where the maker states it. Eternal Elixir sends a third-party COA for any batch on request.
  • Australian availability and shipping (20%): can you buy it here this week, online or in-store?
  • Price per dose in AUD (20%): the shelf price divided by days at the label dose, as in the table.
  • Product range for stacking (15%): whether the brand sells a complementary product, such as methylene blue with magnesium L-threonate.
  • Customer reviews and reputation (15%): brand standing and label transparency. We did not use star ratings, because most are not independently verified.

Every competitor figure comes from that brand’s label or the retailer’s product page on October 12, 2026. We did not test the competitor products ourselves.

Habits that help memory before any supplement does

A capsule works on top of the basics, not instead of them. Sleep is the big one: memory is consolidated during sleep, and healthdirect’s guide to getting enough sleep recommends seven to nine hours for most adults. Regular aerobic exercise, meals with enough protein and fibre, and less alcohol all help focus too. If you feel foggy most days, healthdirect’s page on brain fog lists common causes worth ruling out with your GP, and you should see your GP if memory problems persist or get worse. For sleep-first options, our sleep supplements comparison covers magnesium and saffron.

Focus problems that come with low mood or stress may respond better to a different ingredient. Saffron extract has its own set of trials, which our saffron for focus comparison reviews, and Eternal Elixir sells Saffron Extract 30mg for that need. If tiredness is the main issue, start with our energy supplements comparison instead, or try Korean Panax Ginseng 1600mg for caffeine-free daytime energy.

Safety notes before you buy

  • Methylene blue: do not combine with SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs or other serotonergic medicines. Avoid it in pregnancy and while breastfeeding, and ask your GP first if you have a known enzyme deficiency such as G6PD deficiency.
  • Magnesium L-threonate: high magnesium intakes can loosen stools; take it with a meal.
  • Bacopa: can cause nausea or stomach upset; take it with food.
  • Ginkgo: may add to the effect of blood-thinning medicines, so check with your pharmacist.

Memory supplements: frequently asked questions

What is the best memory supplement in Australia?

Our pick is Eternal Elixir Methylene Blue Capsules 10mg USP. At $1.00 a day it is the lowest daily cost of the seven memory supplements we compared, and a placebo-controlled trial of 26 adults linked a low dose to 7% more correct answers during memory retrieval. For memory with poor sleep, Eternal Elixir Magnesium L-Threonate 2000mg at the trial dose of 2 g a day is the alternative.

What are the top 5 brain memory supplements?

Based on the human research and Australian prices in this comparison, the five most useful ingredients are methylene blue, magnesium L-threonate, bacopa, phosphatidylserine (usually inside blends) and saffron for focus linked to low mood. Ginkgo is popular, but a meta-analysis of trials in healthy adults found no memory benefit.

Is Berocca good for memory?

Berocca is a B-vitamin multivitamin. B vitamins matter for normal energy production, and a top-up can help if your diet is short on them, but a multivitamin is a different job from a targeted memory supplement. If your diet is varied, ingredients with memory trials of their own, such as magnesium L-threonate or bacopa, are a closer match.

How long do memory supplements take to work?

It depends on the ingredient. The methylene blue trial measured memory one hour after a single dose. The magnesium L-threonate trials measured results after 30 days and six weeks. Bacopa trials ran for 12 weeks or more before measuring, so give bacopa at least three months.

Does ginkgo biloba improve memory?

Not in healthy adults, according to a 2012 meta-analysis in Human Psychopharmacology. Across 13 trials with memory data from 1,132 people, the effect of ginkgo on memory was close to zero, and dose and trial length made no difference.

Can I take methylene blue and magnesium L-threonate together?

Many people combine them because they work in different ways, one on cellular energy and one on brain magnesium. No trial has tested the pair, so start one product at a time and add the second after a couple of weeks. Do not take methylene blue with serotonergic antidepressants, and check with your GP if you take any regular medicine.

Is methylene blue safe to take every day?

At the 10 mg label dose many adults take it daily, but it is not for everyone. It must not be combined with SSRIs, SNRIs, MAOIs or other serotonergic medicines, it is not for pregnancy or breastfeeding, and it turns urine blue-green. Speak with your GP first if you take any medicine.

The verdict: which memory supplement should you buy?

Sleep, movement and a GP check come first if your memory has changed. After that, match the product to the problem:

  • Best overall for memory and focus: Eternal Elixir Methylene Blue Capsules 10mg USP, our #1, at $1.00 a day.
  • Memory with poor sleep: Eternal Elixir Magnesium L-Threonate 2000mg at $2.00 a day, the dose used in the Perth trial.
  • A patient herbal option: Herbs of Gold Super Brahmi 6000 for a three-month bacopa trial, or Memory & Cognition Gold for one tablet a day.
  • Lowest upfront spend: Blackmores Ginkgo Brahmi at $25.99 a pack, knowing its bacopa does the work.

Most people looking at memory supplements will do best with one product taken consistently for the length of time its trials ran.
