Best Autophagy Supplements Australia 2026: 8 Compared – Eternal Elixir Spermidine 10mg bottle

Last updated: September 27, 2026 · Originally published: May 31, 2026 · By Eternal Elixir Editorial

Quick Answer

Of the autophagy supplements sold in Australia, our pick is Eternal Elixir Spermidine 10mg. Spermidine is the supplement most closely tied to autophagy research, and our capsule gives 10mg per capsule, 90 capsules for $49.99, which is $0.56 a day, sent from Sydney. Be clear on the evidence, though: autophagy has barely been measured in people taking any supplement. The most direct human result so far is a 2026 pilot in which 6mg of spermidine a day for 13 weeks raised autophagy-related gene activity in immune cells of older adults.

Eternal Elixir makes three of the eight products below, so read this as our pick with the working shown. Competitor prices were read from each live listing on 26 September 2026.

“Autophagy supplement” is a loose label. It covers spermidine, urolithin A, calcium alpha-ketoglutarate (Ca-AKG) and polyphenols such as resveratrol, and these have very different amounts of human research behind them. The doses on Australian shelves vary a lot too, and cost per day is rarely spelled out.

This guide ranks eight products you can buy in Australia, sets out what the human studies on each ingredient actually found, and is plain about where the evidence stops. Eternal Elixir makes three of them, and we say where a competitor does something better.

What Autophagy Is, in Plain English

Autophagy means “self-eating”. It is the way your cells break down worn-out proteins and parts, including tired mitochondria (that specific clean-up is called mitophagy), and reuse the pieces. It is a normal, constant process, and it is one of the systems researchers link to how cells age.

Most of what we know about switching autophagy up comes from yeast, worms, flies and mice. Fasting raises it in those animals, and a 2024 paper reported that fasting also raises spermidine levels in people, across four clinical studies (Hofer et al., Autophagy, 2024). Measuring autophagy directly in a living person is hard, which is why human supplement trials mostly measure other things, such as memory, muscle function or blood markers.

Keep that in mind when a label says a product “activates autophagy”. In people, that claim is mostly an extrapolation from animal work.

Two things stand out. Of the products here, Neurogan’s tablets are the cheapest way to get 10mg of spermidine a day, if you’re happy to order through iHerb. And the milligrams are not directly comparable across rows: some labels give the weight of the spermidine salt, some give spermidine itself, and Primeadine’s 1mg comes from a food extract. For a spermidine-only comparison, see our guide to the best spermidine supplements in Australia.

How We Chose and Ranked These Autophagy Supplements

Eternal Elixir makes Spermidine 10mg, Ca-AKG 500mg and Trans-Resveratrol 1200mg. Spermidine 10mg is our pick, and every figure for the other products comes from their own listings. We looked at four things:

  • Human evidence tied to autophagy. Spermidine and urolithin A have human trials with autophagy- or mitophagy-related measures. Ca-AKG and resveratrol rest mainly on cell and animal work.
  • Dose against the research. Whether the label amount is near what studies used.
  • Cost per day in AUD, from each brand’s stated serve.
  • Buying in Australia: AUD pricing, where it ships from and how many days a bottle lasts.

We ranked our spermidine first because it combines a 10mg label dose, a 90-capsule bottle and Sydney dispatch at $0.56 a day. The honest trade-offs are in each product section below.

What the Research on Autophagy Supplements Shows

Spermidine

Spermidine is a polyamine your body makes and that foods such as wheat germ, soybeans, mushrooms and aged cheese supply. In mice, spermidine in drinking water raised autophagy and mitophagy in heart muscle and extended lifespan, and the heart benefits disappeared in mice bred without a key autophagy gene (Eisenberg et al., Nature Medicine, 2016). Those are animal results. They show a mechanism, not a human benefit.

In people, the evidence is thinner:

  • Diet studies. In a community cohort of 829 adults aged 45 to 84, followed from 1995 to 2015, death rates fell across thirds of spermidine intake, from 40.5 to 23.7 to 15.1 per 1,000 person-years (Kiechl et al., American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2018). This is observational, so it can’t show that spermidine caused the difference.
  • Early trials at about 1mg a day. A 3-month pilot in 30 adults aged 60 to 80 used 1.2mg a day of spermidine from wheat germ extract and found no safety differences from placebo (Schwarz et al., 2018), and a moderate improvement on one memory task (Wirth et al., 2018). The larger SmartAge trial gave 100 adults aged 60 to 90 either 0.9mg a day or placebo for 12 months, and memory did not change against placebo (Schwarz et al., JAMA Network Open, 2022).
  • Higher doses, short trials. In 12 healthy volunteers, 15mg a day for five days raised blood spermine but not spermidine, and the authors thought short-term effects below 15mg a day were unlikely (Senekowitsch et al., Nutrients, 2023). In 37 healthy men aged 50 to 70, 40mg a day of high-purity spermidine trihydrochloride for up to 28 days caused no changes in safety blood tests and little change in blood polyamines (Keohane et al., Nutrition Research, 2024).
  • The first autophagy signal in people. In a 2026 placebo-controlled pilot, 40 adults over 65 took 6mg of spermidine a day for 13 weeks after a vaccine dose. It was well tolerated, and in people whose vaccine response had been poor, spermidine was linked to better antibody responses and higher activity of autophagy-related genes in B cells (Alsaleh et al., Aging Cell, 2026). It is small and needs repeating.

Urolithin A

Urolithin A is made by gut bacteria from compounds in foods such as pomegranates and berries, and it is sold as a supplement that targets mitophagy. We don’t sell it. Authors from Amazentis, the company behind the Mitopure extract, worked on all three trials below, and the company funded the largest. Unlike most autophagy research, these trials measured mitophagy-related markers in people:

  • In the first human trial, in healthy, sedentary older adults, 500mg and 1,000mg a day for four weeks changed mitochondrial gene activity in muscle and blood acylcarnitines (Andreux et al., Nature Metabolism, 2019).
  • In 88 overweight, untrained adults aged 40 to 64, four months of 500mg or 1,000mg a day improved muscle strength by about 12% and raised mitophagy-related proteins in muscle, though the main outcome (peak power) did not improve (Singh et al., Cell Reports Medicine, 2022).
  • In 66 adults aged 65 to 90, 1,000mg a day for four months improved hand and leg muscle endurance, but not the main outcomes of walking distance or muscle ATP production (Liu et al., JAMA Network Open, 2022).

Urolithin A has the most direct human mitophagy data of any ingredient here. The caveats are that all three involved the same company’s extract, and the main outcomes were mixed.

Ca-AKG (calcium alpha-ketoglutarate)

Alpha-ketoglutarate is a normal product of cell metabolism. In mice given Ca-AKG in their food from middle age, lifespan was longer and frailty lower, which the authors linked to lower inflammation (Asadi Shahmirzadi et al., Cell Metabolism, 2020). In people, the best-known data is a retrospective analysis of 42 users of an AKG-and-vitamin product with no placebo group (Demidenko et al., 2021). A placebo-controlled trial of 1,000mg a day for six months in 120 adults aged 40 to 60 (ABLE) is under way, and its main results were not published when we checked. No human study has measured autophagy after Ca-AKG.

Resveratrol

In human cells, yeast and worms, resveratrol and spermidine each switched on autophagy through different routes, and at low doses the two worked together (Morselli et al., Journal of Cell Biology, 2011). That is laboratory work. We found no human trial that measured autophagy after resveratrol. Our best resveratrol supplements in Australia guide covers the human trials that do exist.

What hasn’t been shown

  • No supplement has been shown to raise autophagy across the body in people. The human signals so far are in specific cells or tissues, from small trials.
  • The long spermidine trials used about 1mg a day. Nobody has run a long trial at 10mg a day.
  • NMN, often sold alongside these, raises blood NAD+ in trials but has not been shown to raise autophagy in people. See the best NMN supplements in Australia and best NAD+ supplements in Australia if that is what you are after.

#1. Eternal Elixir Spermidine 10mg: Our Pick

Each capsule gives 10mg of spermidine, listed on the label as spermidine (as spermidine trihydrochloride), and there are 90 capsules in a bottle. At $49.99 that is $0.56 a day, taking one capsule a day with a meal as the label directs. Orders ship from Sydney.

How the dose compares with the research, plainly: 10mg a day is about eleven times the 0.9mg used in the 12-month SmartAge trial and about eight times the 1.2mg pilot dose. It is above the 6mg used in the 2026 immune pilot, and below the 15mg and 40mg doses tested for days to weeks. No trial has tested 10mg a day over months, so we can’t show that it does more than 1mg. What the 40mg trial does show is that much higher amounts caused no problems in healthy older men over four weeks.

  • Suits you if: you want a spermidine supplement with a dose in the range of the newer studies, a three-month bottle, and delivery from within Australia.
  • Not for you if: you want the wheat germ extract used in the long trials (Primeadine is closer to that), or the lowest possible cost per day (Neurogan is cheaper).

The product page offers 10% off two bottles, 15% off three and 20% off five. Three bottles at 15% off is $127.47 for 270 days, about $0.47 a day, with free shipping. If you’re deciding on format, see spermidine powder vs capsules, and buy from our Spermidine 10mg page.

#2. Neurogan Health Spermidine 10 mg

Neurogan’s tablets give 10mg of spermidine 3HCl each, one tablet a day, 120 tablets for $34.67 on iHerb AU. At $0.29 a day it is the lowest cost per day in this comparison, and the listing showed 4.7 stars from 464 ratings when we checked. It is made in the USA.

  • Suits you if: price per day matters most and you already order from iHerb.
  • Not for you if: you’d rather buy from an Australian company that ships from Sydney.

#3. Naturecan Spermidine

Naturecan’s capsules give 5mg of spermidine each, one a day. Prices on the Australian store are $40.00 for 60, $72.00 for 120 and $100.00 for 180, so $0.67 a day for the small bottle and $0.56 a day for the largest. The product is made in the UK and orders ship from the UK, with 7 to 14 business days in transit and free shipping only over $179.

  • Suits you if: you want a lower 5mg dose from a large brand and don’t mind the wait.
  • Not for you if: you want 10mg a day, which would take two capsules and double the cost.

#4. For Youth Spermidine+

For Youth combines 10mg of spermidine trihydrochloride with 250mg of Meriva curcumin phytosome and 250mg of Quercefit quercetin phytosome in one daily capsule. A 30-capsule pack is $65.00, which the brand lists as $2.17 a day, dropping to $1.83 a day in a three-pack. It is made in France by a company registered in Singapore.

  • Suits you if: you want spermidine, curcumin and quercetin in a single capsule.
  • Not for you if: you want spermidine alone, or a 90-day bottle; this costs about four times as much per day as our spermidine.

#5. Primeadine Original (OptimOZ)

Primeadine Original is a concentrated wheat germ extract standardised to 1mg of spermidine per three-capsule serve. A 90-capsule bottle (30 serves) is $149.95 from OptimOZ, or $5.00 a day, the most expensive option here. A gluten-free version gives 1.2mg per four-tablet serve at the same price.

  • Suits you if: you want a wheat germ extract at around the 1mg dose the long trials used. It is the same kind of product as the extracts in those trials.
  • Not for you if: cost matters, or you avoid gluten (choose the gluten-free version).

#6. For Youth The V-Max (Urolithin A+)

This is the urolithin A option. Two capsules give 500mg of urolithin A (MitoAge) and 150mg of CoQ10 phytosome (about 27mg of CoQ10). A 30-serve pack is $75.00, or $2.50 a day, and the listing said it was shipping in sachet format when we checked.

  • Suits you if: mitophagy and muscle are your focus, since urolithin A has the most direct human mitophagy data. The 500mg dose matches the lower dose in the trials.
  • Not for you if: you want the exact extract that was trialled: those studies used Mitopure, not MitoAge.

#7. Eternal Elixir Ca-AKG 500mg

Each capsule gives 500mg of calcium alpha-ketoglutarate, 90 capsules for $59.99, one a day as the label directs, so $0.67 a day. The dose, plainly: the placebo-controlled human trial uses 1,000mg a day, so our label serve is half that, and the autophagy link for AKG comes from animal and cell research.

  • Suits you if: you want to add Ca-AKG to a spermidine routine and are comfortable with early evidence.
  • Not for you if: you want an ingredient with human autophagy data. See our comparison of the best Ca-AKG supplements in Australia and buy from our Ca-AKG page.

#8. Eternal Elixir Trans-Resveratrol 1200mg

Each capsule gives 600mg of trans-resveratrol, and the label serve is two capsules (1,200mg), so a 90-capsule bottle is 45 serves at $59.99, or $1.33 a day. Take it with or without food. It is on this list because of the laboratory work showing resveratrol and spermidine switch on autophagy by different routes, not because of human autophagy data, which doesn’t exist yet.

  • Suits you if: you already take resveratrol for other reasons and want it alongside spermidine.
  • Not for you if: you take blood-thinning medicine, unless your doctor agrees. Buy from our Trans-Resveratrol page.

How to Choose and Stack Autophagy Supplements

If you want one product, start with spermidine. It has the most human research of the ingredients most people mean by “autophagy supplement”, and a 10mg capsule sits in the range of the newer trials. If muscle and mitochondria are your main interest, urolithin A has more direct human data, with the caveats above.

If you want to add a second product:

  • Spermidine and Ca-AKG work on different processes, and both are one capsule a day in our range.
  • Spermidine and resveratrol were the pair that worked together in the Morselli cell and worm experiments. That synergy hasn’t been tested in people.
  • Spermidine, NMN and pterostilbene are the three products in our Cellular Longevity Stack, if you want all three in one order. Don’t buy spermidine separately on top of it, because the stack already contains it.

Start one product at a time, give it a few months, and keep to the label serve. Talk to your doctor before adding any of these if you take prescription medicines, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are under 18. For longer plans, see our longevity supplement stack guide and our walkthrough on building a complete longevity stack. If you’d rather get spermidine from food, our list of foods high in spermidine shows which everyday foods carry the most.

Spermidine at Chemist Warehouse and Other Australian Stores

When Chemist Warehouse’s website was searched for “spermidine” in September 2026, the only result was a skincare product, not a spermidine supplement. So for now, spermidine in Australia is mostly bought online: from Australian brands such as ours, from overseas brands with Australian stores such as Naturecan and For Youth, from retailers such as OptimOZ, or through iHerb AU.

Whichever you choose, check three things on the label: how much spermidine each capsule gives (and whether that is the salt weight), how many capsules make a serve, and how many days the bottle lasts. Our guide on what to look for on a supplement label covers the red flags.

How to Support Autophagy Without Supplements

Supplements are the smaller part of this. The things with more human data behind them are free:

  • Exercise. In a study comparing muscle samples from 33 men, older men who did regular endurance exercise had higher levels of a mitophagy protein than sedentary older men (Balan et al., Frontiers in Physiology, 2019). It was a comparison of groups, not a trial, but it fits the animal research.
  • Fasting. Fasting raises spermidine in people (Hofer et al., 2024), and it raises autophagy in animals. How long a fast it takes to raise autophagy in humans hasn’t been established.
  • Food. Soybeans, green peas, mushrooms, wheat germ and aged cheese are among the richer food sources of spermidine.

Frequently Asked Questions

What supplements boost autophagy?

Spermidine, urolithin A, Ca-AKG and resveratrol are the ones most often sold for autophagy. Only spermidine and urolithin A have human trials with autophagy- or mitophagy-related measures, and both are small. Spermidine at 6mg a day raised autophagy-related gene activity in immune cells in a 13-week pilot, and urolithin A raised mitophagy-related proteins in muscle over four months. Ca-AKG and resveratrol rest on cell and animal studies.

What is the best autophagy supplement in Australia?

Our pick is Eternal Elixir Spermidine 10mg: 10mg per capsule, 90 capsules for $49.99, which is $0.56 a day, shipped from Sydney. Eternal Elixir makes it. If the lowest daily cost matters most, Neurogan’s 10mg tablets on iHerb AU cost $0.29 a day, and if muscle and mitochondria are your focus, a urolithin A product such as For Youth’s V-Max is worth a look.

How much spermidine should I take for autophagy?

There is no set amount. The long human trials used about 1mg a day, a 2026 pilot used 6mg a day for 13 weeks, and short studies tested 15mg and 40mg a day. Our capsule gives 10mg, which is above the long-trial doses and has not itself been tested over months. Take the label serve, one capsule a day with a meal. Our spermidine comparison lists the doses of other brands.

How to trigger autophagy naturally?

Exercise, fasting and food are the natural routes. Active older men had higher levels of a muscle mitophagy protein than sedentary ones, and fasting raises spermidine in people and autophagy in animals. Soybeans, green peas, mushrooms, wheat germ and aged cheese supply spermidine.

How often should you do a 3 day fast for autophagy?

No human study has set a fasting length or frequency that raises autophagy, so there is no evidence-based answer. Fasts of several days carry real risks, especially if you take medicines or have a medical condition. Talk to your doctor before any fast longer than a day.

What to drink for an autophagy fast?

Water is the safe choice. Black coffee and plain tea have almost no kilojoules, so they don’t break a fast in the energy sense. Coffee, including decaf, raised autophagy markers in mice within hours (Pietrocola et al., 2014), but that hasn’t been measured in people.

Can I take spermidine, Ca-AKG and resveratrol together?

We found no trial of the three together and no reported interaction. They are often combined because they work through different processes. Start one at a time, keep to each label serve, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medicines, particularly blood thinners in the case of resveratrol.

Add Ca-AKG 500mg to cart · $59.99

Is spermidine safe, and what are the side effects?

In trials, spermidine was well tolerated: no safety differences from placebo at 1.2mg a day for three months, balanced adverse events at 0.9mg a day for 12 months, and no changes in safety blood tests at 40mg a day for four weeks. Long-term safety at 10mg a day hasn’t been studied. Talk to your doctor before taking it if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or take prescription medicines.

How long does it take for autophagy supplements to work?

We can’t give a timeline, because nobody has measured when autophagy changes in people taking them. The trials that found signals ran for 13 weeks (spermidine) and four months (urolithin A). Treat any product as a months-long trial, not a quick fix.

Verdict: The Best Autophagy Supplements in Australia for 2026

Spermidine is the most sensible place to start, and Eternal Elixir Spermidine 10mg is our pick: 10mg a capsule, 90 capsules and $0.56 a day, shipped from Sydney. Neurogan’s tablets are cheaper per day if you buy through iHerb, and urolithin A has the most direct human mitophagy data if muscle is your focus. For all of them, the honest summary is the same: autophagy has barely been measured in people taking supplements, and the trials so far are small.
